I test drove 2 EF V8 ex chasers.

You really have to check all the ID stickers on the panels to make sure they are all there. Otherwise its probably had a major crash at some stage.

Check all the doors close properly and dont drop down slightly when you open them.

They will have LSD, 2km increments on speedo instead of 5km, speedo can be adjusted / calibrated, no speed limiter. Will have OPT 20 on ID plate in engine bay.

They may and most likely have been thrashed. Take it for a test drive and listen for unsual noises while steering and braking. Check suspension is good if it is still stock.

Otherwise look for all the usual stuff on an EF Falcon, rust being primary in my concern. Everything else can be fixed cheaper.

Yea they get a hard time but atleast they get WELL serviced and anything that needs to be done or fixed gets done...
It wouldn't prevent me from buying one.At the right price...But as said..With any car check for damage etc...They usually have harder brake pads etc as well....

I have an EF V8 "Ex Chaser" from WA still have the original "pursuit wheels" fitted 8-) , mine was a highway patrol car, bugger all city work, if you can try and get the log books from the police, it will give you the service history and any major events it may have had, although I'm not sure how long they keep their records for, I got mine with 35000ks on it straight after disposal still with warranty and it was easy to find all that out, technically I'm the second owner and it now has close to 140000 on it.

If there's any specifics you'd like to know about them give me a PM.

Just my opinion, but why would you want to buy a car thats been started up cold and flogged to the s**t hundred of times!
Thats probably the worst thing you could do to a car.
Just my opinion.

When I bought mine, it was 10 weeks old, 39000 on the clock, and in very tidy condition. I dont think it had time to get cold in that time with those kays. Was used for the snow season, and was from Tumut. If they get flogged so much, it doesnt do them any harm, because when my motor came out at 81344 k, the bores look like new, and really dont even need a hone, so it cant do em that bad.
The cop cars also have a steel tailshaft, to go with no speed limiter...

good thing it only your opinion, I have a few mates with normal 8s, be they falcons, fairmonts whatever that they've had from new and treated "with respect" and they have had no end of trouble, my "flogged" ex chaser has never given me a tap of trouble (touch wood) and just keeps on powering (where's that wood again), dunno what your on about start up cold either, I start mine and back out the garge and drive off, no warm up time, that's for old time donks with old time oil.

are engines given a run in after build up these days??

anyway that's not the point, the flogging I reckon your talking about is the one done by some young hoon, that's usually valve bouncing down the street with one wheel smoking thinking he's cool, an ex chaser or fleet car wouldn't even get that type of punishment.

Um incorrect !! Cop cars that I know of had alloy drive shafts..They are 30% stronger!!! Due to alloy being lighter it has less whipple effect...Commercial cars had allloy shafts too..Utes anyway...
It's nothing new my EB l has alloy and is NOT speed limited as std...
I can assure you I have gone faster than the plod in his 220 kw Auto....

Nah, i'm sure XR's get a flogging for a hell of a lot of time. Thats pretty much expected, cause unless you want one for the looks, most buy them for the power...
If i was that worried about it copping a hard time i'd buy a new car (not that i can afford it).

What i was getting at, is how many times do you see a copper sitting behind the bushes with a radar on the traffic, then as soon as they've got someone, bang the car starts and they're off, foot to the floor chasing someone down. Not normally for long, then the car is parked again and the cycle starts again. I've seen it time and time again, and have known a few coppers, and most of them wouldn't even comtemplate buying one, after knowing how most have been treated.

A few mates of mine have had Commodore Interceptors and they're pretty much rooted compared to another car with similar Km's.

Thats why i said it was my opinion, cause i'm sure people think differently.
Well whether i had an old or brand new car, it gets a warm up period or its pussyfooted around until its warmed up.

Anyways everyone to their own opinion.

Yes but its driven to that location, so engine will be warm!! They don't always turn their engines off either!!! Or they'll get flat battery...
And the poor little trotters won't have air con etc.....

Well I know mine had a steel shaft in in from new, well when I got it anyway, and you are right, it used to sound like a prop engine winding up at around the 190k mark, and dissappear about 215k.
I had it replaced with a alloy shaft, and it was perfect up the the 247kph timed speed run I did, but at that speed, the tops of the doors are trying to expand open, and the wind noise is unbelieveable. The car was amazingly stable though....
