Can someone explain to me exactly what the EGR is on the Ford 5.0L V8..I have googled all about EGR set-ups, but it would seem to me that what is on the Fords really isn't an EGR set-up. If it is, where is the exhaust gas picked up from ?

the valley cover has a channel through it all the way to where the throttle body bolts on, and the plate between the TB & manifold meters how much goes into the intake.

It is call Exhaust gas recirculation
If you've ever looked inside a set of heads you'll see in the exaust port of cylinder #2 0r 3 on the left hand bank (driver side) there will be a small rectangular hole in the roof of the exaust port and thats where the gas comes from

Ok, then tell me what happens if the EGR doesnt work?
Cause it looks like my EGR spacer has blown out, and im having trouble with over 4500rpm flat stick the engine gives this almighty vacum type of screem, then Konk konk, and keep it sticked, it aventually stalls, it would be a perfect symptom, or blocked cats maybe, wich would give the same symptom i would imagine, soon find out. |

Hey. If that gasket is fubard, then it may be introducing air into the system AFTER the MAF meter/EEC has calculated the fuelling requirements for the given load/rpm... which may result in a lean condition. EGR itself is locked out under full throttle conditions to maximise performance... it only works at cruising speeds... causes the engine to stall if open at idle (put a full time vac onto the EGR valve and try to start the car... interesting results, lol)...
