Hey
I recently purchased a BA II XR8 6 speed manual ute, i'm stoked with the car, drives suprisingly well for a ute and with plenty of punch. At the moment it has the stock exhaust with the rear muffler cut out. Sure it's loud but sounds like crap, and If you have a V8 then it needs to sound like one. So im after a new exhaust, ive heard that most custom exhaust end up sounding crappy, and that difilippo, manta, and xforce all tend to be good quality, sound, and performance gains. However i'm leaning towards difilippo. I have roughly $2500 to spend and I want headers, cats, and the cat back. So what do you people find to be the best value for money, I can be more flexible with money If i need to be but a full difilippo system probably stretches my budget too far. Has anyone noticed big difference between paccies and difilippo headers, any contribution would be of great help. Cheers

Gotta say that DiFilippo would do you proud.
However, they are expensive and I dare say they will cost more than $2,500 to purchase. {DESCRIPTION} Other than that, I might consider Manta.

Yeah I could probably afford a maximum of a little over 3k, but I understand the big boy system to be over 4k worth

Hey Burnsy,
I picked up some difilippos for my pursuit but still haven't decided whether to buy a system or make my own. Most of these cars I've heard with aftermarket exhaust actually sound quite rotten. Unfortunately the ones I've heard that do sound good on the road are never in a position where I can talk to the owner. I heard a Manta system on an FG ute the other day and it sounded better than most. Of course that's better not great! So I'm leaning toward making my own using a pair of 2 1/2" Lukey Ultraflo stainless mufflers and 304 tubing. Pete. |

Yeah my last couple of cars (one 4.0 and two 5.0's) have always had paccies and I've just said to the bloke I go to that he can just work his magic and his always done well. But a bloke from work recently took his ba xr8 there and come back sounding raspy and lacking substance, so I dunno, if I go custom I would like to have twin 2 1/2 with xforce cats and hooker mufflers, but it's hard to assume without listening to the same car with what you want first. What did the difillipos set you back?

Yeah too right...it's very difficult to find something identical to your own car for comparison purposes.
From memory they cost about $680 plus freight which, wasn't cheap. They are 1 3/4" 4 into 1 with the pinched collector. I was going to retain the stock cats with whatever I do but I may get another set so i can keep the stock exhaust system unmolested. I'll just make flanges for them. |

that cheap, did you order them from difilippo yourself?
The cats dontbreallybhavebto be done straight away. My mate who works as a mechanic at a local ford dealer thinks they aren't that restrictive and the exhaust join next door to his work said that h often outs them on peoples commodores who can't afford to get real highflier cats. But I'll prob still change them while I'm doing the exhaust anyway. I heard an xforce catback with the quad rear piece and that sounded quite good

They were cheap but the freight was expensive....I got em through a mate in the exhaust game.
Yep, I've lost count of how many tests I've seen comparing high flow cats with stock and no cats and the difference is always about 1hp....not worth it! I saw an Xforce setup on a BF ute and the headers were really badly made and actually melted through the steering boot on the left hand side!?! Didn't hear how it sounded though. |

Yeah I did hear something about that, makes you wonder what the rest of their stuff is like. I might just bite the bullet and put some di filippos and either an xforce or manta catcback. Are you going for quad rear on the pursuit?

Yeah one of the bends was welded together such that it was a point in the bend not a nice arc...if you know what i mean?
I'm not cutting the bumper to fit quad pipes so no. |

Yeah yeah, thats terrible. I'm not cutting mine either, and wouldnt even consider it if I had a pursuit. Have you installed the di filippos yet?

No I haven't had time to do squat lately. Besides I want to do it all wholus bolus and not butcher the stock exhaust to fit it to the new headers.

Hey just curious can I run a straight through exhaust from my cats with no mufflers? If so will I do any damage to the engine?

Ok thanks for that just curious I hear some of the other utes running around town and they sound so much more gruntier than mine and mine already has extractors and a sports exhaust. Any advise?
