Anyhow, some of the 5L EFI punters here have the Pacemaker PH4000 Tri-Y headers which are great for assisting low down to mid range power. You could slip that into a 2.5" single exhaust or go a dual 2.25" set of pipes.

removing the rear resinator is always a good start if it hasnt been removed already.

here is an idea for ya, some1 posted it up the other day. i wana get something similar done to my elxr8. as for beter sound at idle there isnt much you can do if you have already got a aftermarket exhaust and extractors apart from a cam change. my xr8 has extractors, 2 high flow cats, 1 straight through mufler all in mandrel bent 2.5 inch stainless and its prety quiet at idle but makes plenty of noise when ya give her a hard time. the only way i can think of making it sound better at idle is to stop the exhaust just before the diff but i would find someone that has done it and have a chat with them first

i dont think ya will gain much by bashing the guts out of the cats. definatly get rid of the resinator and if its got a stock mufler replace it with a straight through one. that should help her sound a bit better

I have Pacemaker PH4000 extractors, into twin hiflow cats, then a single redback muffler into a single 2.5" tail pipe. I have no resonator.

For a stock motor it sounds pretty good (most would say too loud), and is quite obviously a V8 while idling.

The trouble I have is when I am driving up hill (or any time under constant power, like towing) around 2000rpm (+- 200) it drones pretty badly. If I did it again I'd probably leave the resonator in for that reason.

the whole set up was on the car when i got it, bar the dumpers...i got the dumpers put on for $90....and the rear part of the old exhaust still pokes out of the bumper for cosmetic purposes so theres no tell-tale signs for the cops....
