Guys I have been thinking about doing a manifold and intake on my 5L LTD and was wondering if the explorer setup like this one are any good?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/280816499321 ... 1438.l2649

IS there anything like egr etc I have to be aware of? and is there a diference between the explorer setup and the gt40P?...I seem to be picking up differing info across the net on them

That particular one has had the lower ported and it appears they have over done it.
Explorer intakes don't have provision for internal EGR which you may not care about? If you buy a new Ford racing Cobra intake they have EGR passages.
GT40P's are heads.

Cheers thanks for that XR...so does the EGR really do that much?...i understand the concept but from memory years ago they only worked for about 12 months from brand new and then seized up.

SOrry for the silly questions.....its been a damn long time since I have played around with cars and alot seems to have changed.

Also over doing the lower port job...too little turbulence for correct mixture?

No worries landau dude,
As you understand the concept I won't go into it but, as EGR systems go, these ones are pretty reliable.
As you're putting the intake on an LTD you want to maintain the taper in the ports as they approach the head face to maintain velocity and therefore torque. Opening them right up is a no no.
You should be able to find an Explorer/AU intake that's untouched but you have to consider that a new Cobra one is in the U.S. $350-$400 range which is good value.
