hey guys, i talked to my mechanic today about extractors and high flow cats for my 220kw XR8, i have the 3 inch catback and i want to put extractors and cats on but my mechanic seems to think for the money ill spend im going to get s**t all of a power increase, he thinks maybe 9 or 10kw if i was lucky, just woundering if anyone has the same car and put extractors on and can tell me what the diff was or if someone knows what sorta increase i can expect, getting a power run done in the next week to see what shes got and ill go from there, hope someones is in the know on this one... opinions would be much appreciated...

I know it made a difference on my NF, but the factory headers are pretty piss-poor on them not sure about AU 220kw ones, i think changing the cats would be good too I put on a pair of these
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-x-2-5-High-Flo ... 4cf42916ff as I figured a std set of 1995 cats wouldn't be too flash.

No car gets huge power just by bolting some pipes to the side of it.
Worth it or not is a question only you can answer |

Yes it's true the 220 already has good headers. Long tubes are certainly better but like your mech says the gains wouldn't be huge. But then better is still better. Hiflow cats are a waste of time at this power level...just weld bigger pipes into yours if the collectors warrant it.

Really depends on the engine, how it's designed, where it's secrete horsepower can be unleashed from. Some engines have bad exhausts, and you can gain a fair bit from "some pipes" bolted to the side of it. Other engines respond better to other mods. The 220kw Xr8 - I don't know the answer to that one. Cheers ToranaGuy

Even these Ford heads don't flow that well on the exhaust side..
Every bit helps, don't go to big on pipes though unless cam'd up etc...

Yes, good point because there are large tube(1 3/4") headers made for this model which are completely unnecessary unless you have big heads, intake, cam, compression. Stick with the 1 5/8" versions. |

If all he wants it a bit of noise, then don't waste the money. |

well im trying to get it to about 200 -210rwkw, from what i can gather they have around 160-170 from stock, so its very much acheivable extractors cats and 3 inch with CAI might come close but if i tune it aswell it will be a bit more... just have to work out how much it will have without the tune and see if its going to be close enuf to what i want, was hoping someone might have figures but i knew it was a long shot...
