this will most likely sound stupid but... a mate told me to get a screwdriver and put the tip on the rocer cover and then put the handle in my ear... this is suposer to let you listen the the noise going on insite very clearly... funnily enuf it works...

the weird thing is tere wasent that much of a ticking comeing from inside the rocer covers, i put it on the intake manifold and it sounded like the ticking was comeing from in the intake manifold... might be my imagination but would there be anything in there that would create a ticking noise?

still working on the ticking comeing from the exhaust... havent gotten around to proping it up yet...

Xave you gotta look after it mate! Haha. Pm me your number mate I don't have it anymore.

When am I gonna see this beast? And once again congrats on the newest member of the family to be. :D

Is the ticking noise when you put the boot into it a little? If so, sounds like the exhaust to me... I kinda skipped a few pages... Lol

lol yea dont worry im gana look after her once i get her in tip top shape...

lol i pulled the engine cover off today and polished up some of the pipes inside and the injuector lines (as much as i could get to anyway...) polished the intake manifold a bit... while doing this i realised that several hoses have several bits of tape wraped around them... so it looks like it needs a new hose set aswell... so a set of blue performance hoses are on the list aswell...

Gettin a set of 19's some time soon so iv got AUIII XR8 tickford mags up for sale to... pm if interested

the list reads: timing cover
Hose kit
Exhaust leak or worn cam (not definate on what it is yet)
Plugs and leads
water droped and coolant put in
break fluid
break pads
handbreak adjusted
camber kit
wheel alignment
injectors need cleaning

then i can get the stuff i want to get done: full exhaust with twin 2 1/2 in catbak
ss induction growler kit
dyno tune

Does yours only tick under load? Mine ticks under load from the right bank. Sounds exactly like a exhaust leak but i took it down to my guy and he said he can't hear anything from the exhaust and must be a lifter (lifters would tick all the time, not only under load!?!?!?).

Keen to hear if you have any progress with this!

as for the ticking it sounds like it comes from around where the pedels are... the cat or headers section... cant pinpoint it tho... im pretty sure its a gasket but im definatly gettin some more opinions... needs new plugs so might give that a go aswell...

It could be your cats, if you have ceramic cats the core can come loose and rattle around. Happened to me once.

Mate I would recomend capaldo's on centre road in morwell, I work for bursons and the amount of parts the bloke orders is rediculous, have never heard a bad word against him and his workshop is spotless, and from wat I can tell he is a ford boy so he should know what he is lookin at.

Cheers,
Tomo

Take a video clip with the ticking if you can and post on youtube. It might just be the injectors ticking, or most likely leaky exhaust as others have said. Ignore your first mechanic, these motors have roller cams which don't wear out like the old flat tappet slider cams used to.

but the ticking remains, so i will put a vidio up on youtube a post the link... gettin a vidio camera for my 21st so it will be up soon...

cheers for the replys guys they have all been really helpful...
