i used a\bout a stage 3/4 hyd in my other 351 and then went to the smallest solid - which isnt that smakll ,- changed springs and everything was done right ( as far as i can think ) but had different issues
i used gulf western for the first time 1 hour of engine going - busted cotter / roll pin on dissy gear and notioced huge wear on gear 2 hours -had to adjust rockers a fair bit more than normal dyno run was crap due to secondaries not opening properly - low vacuum 2.5 hours - engine had bad noise - possibly piston skirt / ring or rod bolt adjust rockers a fair bit more 3 hours - failure damage - rod cap opened up piston in a lot of pieces cracked bore hole in sump- damage to windage tray , baffles hole in oil pick up wrecked crank , rod cam broken in 3 places any ideas what happened |

bad luck, sounds like it was cursed from the get go, for the rockers to need heaps of adjustment I'd be thinking that if they were run in properly you had an oil system problem, that would also account for the shagged bearing, and possibly an oil pump issue may have overloaded the dizzy drive causing the wear/failure in that area as well, just a thought.

sounds like a prob a mate of mine had with his last clevo, we found the problem was the gear on the dizzy was to suit later clevo's, and when it started to wear due to floping round a bit that it siezed into the block causing huge stress on the rest of the cam until it broke, then pistons hit valves causing more breaks in the cam, the adjusting of the rockers was due to metal in the oil wearing the lobes, and the crank was re-ground about 150 thou offset, very expensive

sounds like you done all the right things, any indication of what went first? and also what are the faces of the lifters like, if you can get em out, I have seen lifters that have been re-faced been to thin on the running surface colapse and sieze the cam causing all of this aswel? if you need any clevo parts PM me as I have a few spares and might be able to help y' out. kenny

I will be using EFI and he wants to use twin 1050's. keep us posted on ur progress as it is becoming quite interesting on what power outputs are being made from these beasts kenny

What gets me is that you kept running the engine after the first problem.
Huge wear on the cam/dizzy gear and a broken roll pin suggests over loading of the oil pump drive or binding pump gears....you should have pulled the whole engine down at that point. Pete. |

when your at the nats and your tired of the engine you have and want more power you dont care too much - ive no regrets at all, i still did quite a few more smoke shows for the crowds to see , you cant beat the nats feeling , i buiult the car just for that, its been a long wait for the blower stroker set up but im sure it will be worth it come january
