Well for my purely unbiased opinion :) I would go for the XR8 :P

The aggresive looks and the 187 kw donk if you get the series II, fkn awesome.

The interior in a EL XR is still bloody nice, so i wouldnt complain. Also leather is harder to keep in good condition rather than the cloth trimmed seats.

More electrics..... just think of it as more things to go wrong lol... Thats how i see it. I absolutely hate electric windows even thou i only have two, they s**t me off. :x

I bet if you had elecs you wouldnt say that hehe!
Nah - most of my mates say the same thing till they come in my car or upgrade to one with elecs n then they swear by em.

Makes driving that bit more enjoyable not fidling with knobs; enjoy the driving itself.

I would have to agree that some things are wank factor tho; ie: elec seats in ef/el are pretty s**t, bar the ltd ones which are 11way yet still too slow for my liking. They also break down often which backs up your theory or more things to go wrong, but thats just seats!

Naa what about on a hot day!!! That leather gets fkn hot! And also it will eventully fade alot quicker than the cloth trim as well :?

The only thing i would like to have on my XR that most Xr's dont is the little trip computer display thingy. Oh and climate control..... But thats it :D

Carn the poverty pack V8!! All that unecessary weight in the luxury models..... all that unnecessary cost in the XRs...

Track down a 5.0L GLi... the money you save on the XR, get some decent hardware on the windsor (h/c/i/blower) whack a 5spd in her, superlows, ppl wont know what hit em. Lol, who cares what the seats are made of? We're talking V8s here.

And if you need climate control, get in installed for a few hundred bucks!

LOL! Yeah i can imagine, thats the problem with leather.. especially black! lol

I dont have to worry about that as my seats are only the stock xr cloth, the only problem i have, as well as pretty much everyone else wiv a car, are those damn belt buckles after sitting in the sun all day! OOUUCCHH!!

I think the XR's are far greater than Fairmonts. Too much crap you dont need in a Fairmont.. Climate control.. If i needed that id be at home with my Fujitsu.. Leather is great to say and think of, and looks sweet as but easy to foegt in summer when you burn your a**/arms/legs/neck and so on .. XR's look better standard. They go better standard. And when it comes to mods you dont spend as much. You get good diff ratio's, nice cloth trim, find an XR with cruise and a sunroof and what would you want a Fairmont for ... too spend your days drooling over the nice XR your trailing ? Any nice v8 will turn heads. It's just with an XR people look twice

there. thats bound to p*ss off at least 3/4 of the people in this thread..
but you gotta love what you drive.

Yes i will agree with that!!! that EL XR8 II that i was looking at a while back was fkn beautiful. It would of been my only child lol! :)

Also With getting a futura and GLI with a V8 init if you are going to put a body kit and XR front on it, its gonna be chaper getting a XR ne way. Plus you have the sportier seats and nice instrument cluster. :)

at last, the first sensible post in this whole thread, lol.....

if you want luxury you belong in a old folks home, come on, this is ford mods, not soft C**k...... when you blow away that commodore at the lights do you think he is gunna care if you have a nice toasty constant 23 deg in you climate controlled cab........... pfft, you need to have all the windows down to flip em the bird.

go for a drive in a xy - xb gt and give it a good squirt, if at anytime the smile fades from your face cause its not leather seats your sitting in or its a little too warm inside then you are definetly either deaf or blind........... by the way, all cars have power windows and aircon, there called window winders, ha ha ha.

i looked at putting ed xr front ect on my eb and doing a mock xr8 and then thought but WHY its not an xr it doesnt go like an xr so ive just lowered it and left it without spoilers ect and the look has grown on me and ive saved cash the only thing i did was buy some eb xr seats and dash (but for $200 who wouldnt have) but e series xr,s and even au 1 xr,s are getting heaps cheaper now so its not really worth doing unless i suppose for insurance for younger drivers but then its modified so i dont know but hey if everyone left there cars stock life would be boreing

Wrong

-lsd
-vct engine
-leather
-woodgrain
-more chrome
-better wheels
-premium sound
much more to list.. :D

- LSD was a $200 option on the Fairmont
- VCT wasn't around in the EF/EL days
- Leather was s**t Howe leather that looks like vinyl and cracks after a few years use. When this happens you spend $$ getting it retrimmed, something that you could've done in a Fairmont to begin with.
- Woodgrain was plastic stuck to the door with double sided tape. In my opinion is that if it aint real don't put it there.
- Chrome was plastic not metal so it shouldn't be too long before it starts peeling off and/or fading. Refer to above
- Wheels are dependant on the individuals taste. In either case they were too small and narrow.
- Premium sound was rubbish. Installing a decent headunit would've left Fords 'premium' sound for dead. Even if the head unit was up to it you're not going to produce crystal clear sound with 5 1/4" paper cones and an 8" sub that shook the parcel shelf to the s**t..
:)
