If i got the choice of a fairmont or a xr8 I would go for the fairmont even though the xr8's have being givin the luxuries slowly over the models from EF upwards but nothing beats a fairmont for LUXURY thats why alot of xr owners add the fairmont bits to make the car more on par as the xr is a sports package.

I went the EL Fairmont Ghia V8. I got it just over a week ago. I love it.
Power and luxury. You cant beat that. |

I know exactly where you're coming from.
If you're not worried about the option of having a manual V8, then get the Fairmont for sure, my Dad just bought an EL Ghia, a lot nicer than my XR, but the only downfall (for me anyway) is that its only the Tickford 6. If it was an 8, i'd consider swapping him for it! Get the Fairmont if ur happy with an auto. Thats my opinion anyway. Dave |

I agree the only downfall of the Fairmont is its only auto. You could get it converted to manual but its probably worth spending the money elsewhere.

I go tmine, cause of the luxury, and the 6 is a bit cheaper on the juice, after all its a family car.

I got the V8 Fairmont for it's added features. Add to that every second bloke I know has an XR8, V8 fairmonts are much rarer in my circle of friends.
I agree the auto is a killer but add a shift kit and a new converter and there not that bad.

If it were a manual XR8 i couldnt turn it down.... if both auto then get the fairmont for sure.

Id go for the fairmont! To make up for having the auto i say go up a step n treat yaself to the GHIA; for what little extra it might cost it will be well worth it in the long run.
If you gotta have manual thats no biggy; grab the ghia save a couple of dollars n make a manual ghia v8 - VERY desirable.

It would be a hard choice for me, the fairmont is power and luxury but the XR8 has the agressive sports image. Either way I am sure you will be happy.

Elsewhere?? The only thing a Fairmont Ghia v8 doesnt have is a manual... There is nothing more you can add...

Get one like mine then. It has the XR8 kit, wheels and suspension (all from new). All it is missing is the twinlights, which I am happy about. I like the Fairmont front. Admitedly the image in my gallery is not the best, but have a look anyway.

fairmont ghia was my choice, didnt even think of the xr8. leather and sunroof was what i was after. very rare cars. every one thats been in mine wishes they had leather in there car.

I own both a fairmont, and an XR8. (Fairmont has an XR6 motor in it though)
Really depends on what your after... I think you would spend less on a XR8 to get it on par than you would spend on a Fairmont.. With a fairmont, you have to do the suspension to get rid of the body roll, and 4WD ride height, you have to get decent mags, the standard seats are crap, so you will need to replace with sports seats... With an XR8, you could put in a trip computer, and power windows - and voila - sports with luxury.

got the Ghia myself, as to spending money elsewhere, get better brakes, i have tickford suspension and wheels but changed suspension as it was old, then tickle the motor and bring it to life, and lastly, PUT IT ON THE BOTTLE
