from memory i think on the E series, we use parts from 86-94 mustang parts.
I'm not 100% sure on the exact years, but these are the engines that we use. Someone may correct me if i am wrong.

youll find the later stuff will fit too, like for example the t/body just requires an adaptor..but im pretty sure the later stuff was the 4.6L V8

86-93 for the eecIV eb/ed 165kw motors..
94/95 for the eecV ef/el motors.. 86 not really applicable coz IIRC they had forged slugs, or somethin like that.. not the hypereuretic like th 87+ thats just for HO.. theres cobra parts mixed about in there.. ie ebgt/sprint was essentially a cobra motor.. oh yeh and 96+ was the 4.6 modular

'88-'93 Mustang 5.0 HO is essentially the same animal except for front engine dress. '86-'88 Speed density Mustangs were also very similar except the cam timing events were slightly different and of course the '86 only had the terrible heads.
In '92 Ford switched to a hyper piston instead of the previous forged one. Many early 5.0 Falcons have the forged piston engine but it is hit and miss as to what car you got it in as I've seen an ED with the forged pistons and an EB1 without!? The '94-'95 Mustang had the same engine except it had the terrible upper intake with the curved t-body neck to allow it to fit under the sloping bonnet. This is the worst flowing HO intake there is. The throttle body has a horizontal blade on this engine. Front dress on this engine is very similar to our E-series 5.0L. This mustang still used an EECIV which shares nothing with the earlier EECIV except the 60 pin connector. It also had the ability to control the AODE/4R70W trans which was new for the '94-up Fords. Pete. |

If you are refering to the engine in your Fairlane?....no....it's basically a 5.0L Explorer engine minus the poxy 90 degree t-body/external EGR adaptor. Pete. |

No worries clampy,
Generally speaking '94-'95 is the changeover period from IV to V. So it's safe to say '96-up is EECV only....there are some exceptions to this in other parts of the world though. The reason the '94-'95 5.0 Mustang EECIV was not used on the EF 5.0L is because the BTR trans has seven solenoids as opposed to the five used in the AODE/4R70W and that EEC was already maxed out in terms of output drivers and the control strategy of that trans is also completely different. The 4.0L however, being bank fired meant that trans control could be integrated much earlier(EB). Another mechanical point is that the '93 Cobra engine whilst essentially identical to the ED Sprint engine did not have a removable EGR plate; it was cast in and not water cooled!? Pete. |

Its the throttle body I am trying to match at the moment and assuming that the 86 - 95 is basically same engine will the tps and other electricals on the side of the original t/b be used without dramas.
Below I have a 86-93 t/b which is the one I think I am after and the 96 - 04 t/b compared. If you have a mustang t/b could you confirm the one that fits best? Im using on the original explorer upper? Thanx
