Location: melb
VIC, Australia

Iv got an Auto EL 6 and iv got a 5ltr and a manual box waiting to go in, what other things has got to be changed from a 6 to an 8 other then gearbox, tailshaft, diff, fuel pump, what else?

fuel lines or anything like that? any help would be appreciated,

Iv got a smashed ef 5ltr manual that im using for the whole conversion, so everything is in there so i have to know what has got to be taken out.

also if anyone wants to do the whole conversion for me, i pay cash, saves me finding a mechanic lol

ECU has to go in. I would take it that its also an EL you have with the 8 in it? Also im quite sure the brakes have to be changed and if i remember right the exhaust manifold and intake has to be swapped too (that is obvious)

It would be a lot easier if you just swap the entire wiring looms.

Here's what else is different, from memory:

Brake booster
Front brakes?
K-frame
Front springs
ECU and wiring
Gearbox (which you already know)

And if the EF/EL is the same as the early E-series the 6 and 8 cylinder tacho's aren't interchangeable.

And no doubt some other bits too.

The differentials are the same except for the ratios (or a standard LSD fitment with some models).

I had a quick look at the PBR catalogue, and unless you have a GT, there is no listing for I6 & v8 brake rotors/calipers.

EB - ED the rotors & calipers are the same between I6 & V8. The boosters are different in the v8 eb & ED models, with the v8 being a bigger booster.

Cheers

Fuel pump is the same.
Cluster is the same on EF/L.
Use an entire V8 harness...it will be easier in the end.
Power steer and A/C lines are V8 specific.

Ah righto, good thing I put the question mark after it?

I thought the K-frames were different? Meh, maybe I'm insane.

Wouldn't you need all the V8 standard stuff in order to make it road legal? Isn't that the wayit works in the NSW parts of the mainland?

six cylinder springs are good for weight transfer when you're drag racing. Besides the pork won't know the difference just by looking at them

EB & ED the K frame / sub frame is v8 specific. Onwards???

V8 springs are designed to carry the heavier engine, but 6cyl springs would be better for drag racing, tho overall handling will suffer with 6cyl springs.

Boosters are the same right through to AUI.

Do you mean the v8 booster is the same right thru?

I have 2 v8 EB's & 1 I6 EB, the boosters are different! v8 is much larger, i think a double diaphram type.

Cheers

No, EF/EL/AUI boosters are all the same in every model.

So they are all pissy plastic junk lol? That will make a later model v8 conversion a tad easier.

Yep, thats the one. The one that melts and cracks with any extractor heat.

Bit of a joke really, isn't it? I wonder if the older double diaphram type booster could be fit? (with custom lines I imagine)

Cheers

Has anyone here done something like this before?, if im going to have to start changing brakes, springs, dashboars clusters etc, than its way to much trouble, i thought it was simply, motor, box, tailshaft, and ECU,which i have a wiring loom waiting with an autronic computer.

Whats a K frame?

Thanks for all the replies....

PM a total tool, he has just done the conversion to his EL6. He used an AU8, that had been fitted to an EB. Brought the EBV8 and transferred everything over.

Brakes,k-fame and brake booster are all the same. The Dash will work without changing it, it gets its signals from the ECU, so yu would need a V8, the ECU, the engine bay loom and the auto. Not much else needs to be changed.
