Can any one give me some info on the purge canister solenoid on the nc Fairlane?
I know they're in the F/Dside wheel well and it was probably unplugged by the previous owner because of an apparent noise, but since then I've cleaned up the plug and reconnected it but still can't correct the fault codes, I've used 2 ecu's and both register the same fault codes, one hose from the pcs seems to vent in the engine bay and the other heads off towards the brake booster and thru the fire wall, Is there a way to check if the pcs is working properly?

It should be on the passenger side near the airbox because the canister itself is mounted in that wheel well area. One end of the hose goes to the canister(obviously) and the other plumbs into the upper intake manifold via the steel pipe that runs along the front of the engine near the fuel lines/coil before bending around the dizzy and has an ajoining rubber hose that attached to the barb under the front side of the upper intake.
15 is an EEC ROM fail code btw. If the EEC ain't toast clear the codes and retest after connecting the CANP solenoid. |

Thanks I'll get on to that, any idea what the hell is mounted on the driverside then?

How about a photo of what you're talking about that's mounted on the driver side?
Cheers, Tim

drivers side is self levelling suspension compressor. passenger is ABS by the look. Charcoal canister should be ahead of the ABS.

NC the equivalent of ED?
On ED that solenoid is in the engine bay, not under the mudguard and is between the air box and then manifold... Two plastic lines duck under the airbox through the guard, one hooks to that small rigid steel pipe that loops up over the shock tower... The other will hook to the solenoid and then duck into the intake manifold... Cheers, Tim

Found 'em! Both rubber hoses are disconnected, solenoid is missing along with the tube connecting to the intake, can anybody give me a part number for the solenoid? I'll be needing one of those,
As for code 15, both ecu's (1deb & 3dfa) will come up with 15, but work fine, could the j3 Chip cause that?

Yep the J3 will cause that permanent ECU failure code... remove the J3 and it goes away...
That solenoid was worth like $300 from Ford when you could get it because it was required for emissions control and as such the charged respectively for it... Your best bet is to visit your local wrecker... Most ED style ones buggered up and didn't work and let the smell of fuel into the cabin... I have since replaced my dodgy ED one with the generic Jaycar one and had no issues... $20 of jaycar and a couple of bits of vac hoses out of the spares bucket and some hose size changers (jaycar solenoid has fractionally smaller barbs on it) and adapted the wiring tail onto it and I've been one happy camper... You just need to make sure you install them the right way around... One way if you suck hard enough you can over come the spring pressure and draw air... That's the wrong way... The lowest barb should be hooked to the motor so it tries to suck the valve shut, not open... Cheers, Tim

That's some very helpful info Tim, much appreciated, I'll definitely be making a trip to jaycar on my next days off, and thanks for solving the self levelling susp mystery XR9UTE, had me stumped haha
