351 is very easy to drop into a XE, I did one 10 years ago. went straight Gas to keep EPA happy and make engine bay neat.

NudgE (I think he is on FM) is doing the mod to a Gold XE at the moment.

By a rusted out XD/E or ZJ/K ot FC/D with a factory V8, then you will have complete conversion with loom.

I modified mine and hid it all under the guards.

No it wouldnt have, it wasnt rebuilt , and in an xd fairlane they only made around 150-160 kw brand new at the flywheel.
That particular six was quicker than a stock xd 351 clevo, what more can i say :?
My 250 was making close to 185kw at the engine, more than the stock clevo.

stock 351's from the XD era made about 170-180hp at the wheels stock...I have dyno'd a few and they were all in that range. Headers were an easy 20hp more.
It just doesn't make sense that you go to all the trouble to change engines and then don't do anything to help the 351 make more power. It could quite easily kick that 250's a*** with a few simple mods.

It probably could have if it was a fresh 51, it only took me a couple of days to swap it so no biggie, and it was a piss easy swap.
Id obviously hoped the v8 was quicker but after exhausting my funds at the time i decided the six was a better option because it already had all the good gear and i was skint with no cash left to give the v8 more berries.
If i did it now id use a 302 windsor with 40p,s and a cam :D

That XE looks real clean for the money!

Considering some XE's did come with 351's, you should be able to slot one right in, if you change all the v8 gear over. I would imagine the front springs & shocks would need to be v8 rated. I have a feeling all 351 powered XD & XE's had 4 wheel disc brakes & a bigger booster than the 6 bangers as well. 302 powered i'm not so sure.

I'd have to go stick my head under the hood of mums XD wagon with 351 clevo in regards to the booster, but her wagon has a disc brake 9inch diff in it. :D Yep, i'm positive it's a 9inch, you can't mistake them for a borg warner.

Cheers

In 1984 they stopped putting V8s in xe's, and I have heard of vicroads asking for engineers reports on 84 models. At some stage they also stopped useing the 351 except in police cars

In WA you can license any XE with a cleveland or windsor V8, and because the taxable hp for both 4.9 and 5.8 is the same it doesn't matter which engine you fit. So of course you do a 393 and tell em it's 302

That's weird, because the XE didn't change enough (or at all?) in 1984 to warrant vic roads asking for an engineers report on a 84 with a 351 v8. IF any of the XE's come with 351's you can fit the "optional engine" to any XE as long as you fit all the other bits that were fit from the factory to the 351 car's. IE, if rear disc brakes were std for a 351, you must fit them.

Cheers

ok cool

so obviously i'll need v8 rated springs and struts in the front it has a disc brake rear end already so a 351 conversion should give me no hassles when its time for rego, SWEET

ok so panel work starts this weekend motor and box come out and going into my brothers sigma, (skid pig) for payment for the panel and paint, final colour decision is all gold with orange pearl, lots of orange pearl and toying with the idea of adding purple pearl in too.......

I'm not excactly certain but I think the V8's may also have had a larger brake booster than the six's due to extra engine weight.

That's a good point, i know the EB -> V8's did, i know some of the earlier XA-XC's had bigger boosters, but really don't know in the XD & Xe's....

my brother now wants me to buy an xd and fit all the front panels and interior in it from the xe so i can club rego it????????

is this right?

i'm not sure whether to do it if he is right as xd's had leaf springs and i prefer the xe coils?

although 3" lowering blocks would look heaps sick ay!!!!!!!!!!

If memory serves me right the xe V8's also had factory rear disc brakes so check brake bias as well. I converted an old xc from 6 to 8 and had to change the braking system to match.
