i asked a couple places around Sydney and most were about the same as what you were quoted as well.
I managed to find a new box for $595 and got it dyno tuned for another $400 at the same time.

What car you tuning?

First thing i would do is get rid of the throttlebody and put the stock one back on, they like to play up alot and dont do anything for performance unless your going for an extra tenth down the qtr.

There's no way out of buying a CAPA flash box, once a tune is put on a car that box can only work on that car. If you get a custom tune it's best to have a good cai and full exhaust to get the most out of it, otherwise it'll need to be re-tuned with each extra mod.

if you dont want a flash tuner you can use this new sniper software.

the only thing is because it is new not many people are doing it yet.
i have heard dynowog has this now, its just a case of getting somone in sydney that can tune it and supply you with a bullet and no box.

look up sniper tuning on google or ask the wog.
