I have a 2004 Ford Falcon XR8 BA. It has been sitting for a while and battery went flat. Now is charged engine is clicking over but will not start. The navigation screen came up with "security code error" when first tried starting it, but now doesn't light up at all. The (!) light is on as soon as you turn key over. In addition, now doors wont lock either. It sounds like it is also stuck in gear. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be...

is the engine just clicking or is it actually turning over?

security code error is normal if the battery has gone flat. u will need to take it to a ford dealer and have them calibrate the audio unit, no major problem there. as for the start it sounds as if the battery has dropped a cell posibly? even though u have charged it, it probly doesn't have enough to crank the motor. hope that helps.

Sounds like the bat is still flat. how fast is it turning over? like normal or really slow?

if its not even kicking over just going "Click Click Click Click Click Click Click Click Click Click" then its ur battery. If u just charged it then ur battery is stuffed and you will need a new one

once u have fitted a new battery, leave the key in the "on" position for 5 sec or so and the audio unit should than be happy also

Yeah thats the battery in the BA's. The old mans V8 Ghia did it too. There was no warning. Battery was good, then next morning, click click click.

Mine did that too, it actually died while driving along and the car died.. first time a flat battery has ever done that to me.

I think the BA's are really weird in that respect. I couldn't believe the car would be fine one day and then totally dead the next. Every other car i've known will just crank slowly or struggle for weeks or months, and it gives you some warning.

it depends if the battery just deteriorates or if a cell short circuit/open circuits.

Make sure your batt terminals are nice and clean. Put on some dielectric grease if you can. Check the terminals are nice and tight. I had similar problem on another car and it was grubby terminals. Worth a try, might save you some cash.
