I posted not soo long ago about a 'clunky automatic gearbox'... since then the clunk is still there... but also some more problems... The Box has become increasingly SLOW at changing gear... although 1st to 2nd.. is perfectly smooth... and quick... but when it comes to 2nd to 3rd.. it has a massive delay.. and finally a clunk that throws you into the seat... then between 3rd and 4th... i will be cruising up to 100ks.. with about 1/4 acceleration and the revs will decide to go up to about 4000rpm inbetween gearchanges - gives you an idea how slow the gearchange is.. it also makes a high pitch groaning noise that can last from anything from a small chirp... to a 5 second groan... (Im thinking that the groan is a slipping clutch?) not too sure... but thats my only explanation...

PLEASE HELP ME!!!.... im stressing a bit.. have only owned the car for just over 2 weeks now.

hmm... i have not yet checked the fluid levels... mine does not have a Transmission Dipstick... strange... and also it is easter weekend.. so i cant get anything done about it.. untill at least Tuesday... so the car is parked up at the moment... im driving my old TELSTAR TX5 Ghia... I have heard that it could be a slipping band in the box... or it could be a solenoid... solenoids are about $275 for 2... and their are 7-8 in the box :|... its scary to think how much it could cost me...
Im hanging out to drive my baby again!... im scared that if i do drive it.. something is going to POP.. and end up requiring a whole new box.

Oh BTW.. how hard is it to convert it to a manual? ive heard that you need to replace the whole driveshaft... as the AUTO is a longer box... and the driveshaft wont reach the manual box...

yeh im going manual soon so im not going to bother to fix my box if its rooted. a manual for you would be a little harder as yours is an 8 so im not too sure of your chances finding one for a decent price. im itching to drive my car too, its just sitting in the driveway, then again i drive my car pretty hard so this is expected

Yeah... i drive the car pretty hard... but not hard enough to cause problems... only had it for about 3 weeks now.. But i also drive like a grandpa to save petrol... and only occasionally do i blow the cob webs outa her... She Loves it ;) haha.

I could always goto a wrecker and look for a manual box... Do other model boxes fit into the E series?.. such as BA/BF XR8 boxes... or AU XR8 Boxes... would be nice for a 6 Speed BA Gearbox... mmm.. thats getting expensive though :P

What mods would need to be done to convert to a manual? Cant be too hard?

It isn't as easy as it sounds! you will need a box, pedal box, to modify the ecu with a resistor, clutch line/cable, a flywheel and there are 2 sizes and must also be a late model 50oz windsor ballance, an insert to fit in the console, but the good news is the tailshaft is the same! but don't forget the little things like spigot bearing, if using a 6cyl box extend the input shaft by 1/2'' and i'm sure theres heaps i've forgotten.
I've got a tremec on the shed floor but just havent been game to start the job yet!

Jeez, this is getting expensive isnt it!!.. Ive had alot of expences at the moment... insurance cost me $2,452 for Full comp... there is a problem with the steering, where the universal joint is loose, to replace that, u need to replace the whole shaft, which cists $270 inc labour... and i wanna chuck the 16" Tickford wheels onto it... anyone wanna donate any? its for a good cause!...

But before all that, i gota get the Gearbox fixed/replaced, the steering is fine untill i can afford it... but if anything goes wrong with the running gear... i HAVE to get it fixed..

Its not real urgent... but i cant stand driving my old '88 Telstar TX5... its just got no balls!...

it just gets worse, first you will be happy with the power , then you will get used to it ,and have to make it better, again and again & again, and from the age of some of the blokes I still see under their bonnets every weekend, you do not grow out of this.

regarding your gearbox probs orloxsis, id get it checked out asap. there would be nothing worse than the car dieing on you in the middle of nowhere. might be something minor like more tranny oil or something worse. dont find out the hard way

Im Prayin for ya... maybe i took your bad luck ;)... i hope.
Get the car back on friday... or so they said... so ill give a few more days before i start planning things... My sound system was supposed to be installed today, but thats obviously out of the question...

After i get it back, its back into the shop again to get the steering fixed... which is a whole days work, because they have to wait for the extractors to cool before they start work... and its a good 10kms to the shop... so by then i think the engine would be hot :|... Not lookin too good for my wallet...
