I remember asking some people about these a while ago... so not my personal opinion but i agreed with the logic...
Basically... a) Nothing wrong with the Windsor's standard double-row timing chain, really... good for a couple/few hundred thousand kms and little stretch in the meantime. b) The gear sets have the effect of transferring a lot of vibration to the cam and associated bearings.... which has obvious effects on the lifespan of these components. But they do sound awesome (like an old V1 Vortech supercharger, before the 'super quiet' gear sets) and i imagine there's definate benefits for a highly tuned engine.

I agree with you, plus often there is issues with clearances, plus it could be crap made. Some gear sets make that much noise you think something is going to s**t itself.(poor instalation and/or poor quality)

They sound cool, but can get annoying on long trips..
plus the one on ebay is for a clevo - not a windsor.

hehe buy it brad they sound cool!!.......
and yes i agree with all teh others point but witha good quality gear set there is no stretching of the chain-- spot on cam timing and no chance of a chain breking...

Yeah.. i was looking at the main advantage of very true timing and not having to worry about chains snapping. I realise that for a near stock 5.0 it may be overkill.. But the sound?
If one was to buy a good quality set and ensure that they are installed on spec.. would the pro's (sound!!!) outweigh the cons?

On a near stock EB 5.0? It would be interesting to see a late model car whining like an old school street machine at a set of lights but without the raging bull lumpy idle.

That would be like when my old XE 4.1 had a large coolant leak, it sprayed directly into the alternator causing it to sound like it had a supercharger, it had a 2.5" sports exhaust, I had heaps of dumb f**k asking me if it was supercharged, funny as it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. (it was only good for towing)
