I have heard heaps of mention about the AU GT40 Heads and something about the GT40-P heads. Can someone please explain a bit about them. All i know is that they flow better than whats stocko on an EB V8.
Are they Alloy or cast Iron? How much can they be ported to flow (With the other appropriate mods to engine).

The GT40 heads were originally designed for the Mustang Cobra (the performance version of the Mustang) and were cast iron. Most Ford motorsport ctrate motors were fitted with these heads and the GT40 tubular manifold.
The GT40P heads originated on the 94 Mustangs and were fitted to the later Explorer 4 wheel drives. The P's are still cast iron. The GT40P heads flow a little better than the GT40's. Ford motorsport also have aluminium versions of the of the GT40's (X, Y,Z versions). The GT40P's outflow the lowerspec alloys but are not as good as the new Z series heads. Shane

What are the GT40 heads worth? Are they worth fitting given they are cast iron? And is it possible (and cost effective) to have the factory cast iron heads on my 99 AU Fairlane worked? My intake manifold is different to the on my other Fairlane (97' NL), is it much better? I am looking at trying to achieve 200 - 220 Kw and I don't want to pay $8000 for the AU3 220 from a wrecker. Finally, if alloy heads are my only choice, what works best for the money?
Thanks.

Thanks. You most likely have the GT40 heads on the AU V8. The manifold is likely to be the Explorer manfifold, much better than the intake fitted to the E series V8. 22kw at the engine should be pretty easy for your engine... Mr Landau should be able to point you in the right direction

Do you know how to identify if they are GT40 heads? I have also bought a set of Motivator headers off EBay, I believe they were from Ferntree Gully Auto Salvage, and I will be fitting them with a new exhaust fairly soon. Is the engine de-tuned at 185kw, or are their other mods required to achieve the 22kw you mentioned?
Thanks.

Thanks. Whoops... that should have been 220kw, lol. I believe the extra kw come from hardware - MAF sensor, exhaust etc. Extractors should release a bit of power... not sure on identifying GT40 heads sorry, maybe have a look at Mr Landau's web page (www button under his posts) as there's plenty of good pics on there.. may include head comparison.

The GT40 and GT40P were cast iron
The GT40X , GT40Y and GT40Z are alloy. Shane

And the sparkplug holes are on a different angle, and they are bigger, which makes them pricks to fit if you have extractors designed for E7's!

I thought extractors were sold for EB-AU 5L.. not E7/GT40 specific.
I wonder if this applies to my genies

No one will put their names next to anything to fit an EB with GT40 heads, the closest I have come to finding ones that fit without a hammer, are AU pacemakers, but the swaybar has to have spacers put under it to lower it and there is something that has to be cut off the firewall on the passenger side, I am told the EF/L are in the same boat?.
This by the way is all caused by the sparkplug angle |

Uh oh, I've already got pacies on and was considering different heads in the future.

ELGT extractors work well enough - far better design than the standard ford exhaust manifolds (won't even call them extractors)

they'd be hard to get though, wouldnt they.. and probably no where as good as a set of pacies!
I cant beleive the GT40's will be a problem in the EB with extractors. Grr Does this also apply to aftermarket heads ?
