Just wondering where is the best place to find/purchase gt40p heads?
Also what is the difference between gt40p's and gt40x's? will they both fit an 5.0l ef?

Basically the 40P's are iron and the 40X's are ally.
40P's will need porting and bigger valves to approach the flow of 40X's. 40P's have an almost 90 degree(from the side of the head) spark plug angle which makes for spark plug/header clearance problems on everything but AU's. 40X's have the same 45 degree spark plug angle as practically every other windsor head available which means they will bolt straight onto your EF. Pete. |

Interesting.
So a set of gt40p's wont be a direct bolt up for a ef xr8? If so what is a reasonable alternative? I am scraping together parts for a stroker kit for my ef. Crank rods and pistons should be arriving in the mail soon so i am looking for a better set of heads and manifold without going over the top (budget wise). Any info is much appreciated.

The 40X's are a good choice. Pete. |

you might want to look into a set of darts ,not a bad cost compared to fords x series ,qld prices might be abit differant than you southerners get but was told about $1600 bare or $2500 bolt on compared to $2200 bolt on for darts !!!!you'll need to know what compression your motor runs so that you can match up cc's in a set of heads ,gotta remember the fuel we live with ....doc

Interesting I been thinking gt40p's for my elxr8, can you use the same headers and intake as the standard heads???
As i assumed that I would have to buy new extractors, an expense I do not really need.... |

Yes you can use the same headers and intake. As stated above, GT40P's will bolt on just fine.

I would say that stuffing around with header/spark clearance is a clear indication of NOT simply bolting the heads on.
Factor in the cost of rebuild, big valves and porting the 40p's and just about every other aftermarket head out there becomes better value. Cheers, Pete. |

Not everyone wants to go fitting bigger valves and porting GT40P heads - it's by no means mandatory and stock they'll well out perform the E7's. Of course they simply bolt on and yes no 5 plug is a little cramped etc... but they do bolt on with no fuss and they will work fine.
If you are looking to port the a*** out of them and fully rebuild then what Pete says is about right. GT40Ps will fine for a budget stroker. As with everything though you'll get more from something that costs more. |

you can get some good flow out of gt40ps without bigger valves, thats why on the 40ps they actualy reduced the ex valve size from gt40 have a look at
www.diyporting.com bit of info on gt40ps oh, they decreased valve size to increase port velocity, depends what you want to achieve |

thanks for the info, I can see the conflicting info, its the same as the old 2V vs 4V debate on the clevos...
Will go with gt40p's I think, as it is not a drag car, just a nice streeter, daily driver, might add a mild cam at the same time....., I should see some good results as the car already has el gt intake, injectors and computer plus ducted cold ait intake to the k&n panel filter I feel the heads are holding it back from unleashing its full potential..... |
