i'm thinking of getting a head job.
i have an AU2 XR8 with the GT40p heads. i was thinking of either porting these heads or buying aftermarket. i am looking at either Trickflow ($2K) or AFR heads ($2.5K). what do think would be better? would it be worth the extra cost of AM heads? |

You will generally have to put at least $1k worth of wok into the GT40P's so they can try and compete with out of the box alloys. If you factor in the cost of porting and that you should be able to sell the GT40P's for around $1k, then the aftermarket alloys aren't all that expensive.
Are you looking at stroking the engine? IMO the GT40P's are a great budget head which flow enough for most 5L combos and even mild strokers IMO unless you are looking at a wild 5L or stroker I would save the money and put it into something else. But it all depends on how much you are willing to spend and what sort of power you want to chase. |

Alloy's IMO. Gives you room to grow and you can sell the gt40p's. I ported my gt40p's (mildly) but ended up stroking and forking out for alloy's.

Widowmaker ue these heads sometimes. My heads are apparently a mix on pro toplines and somthing else. They get them cast especially. If that makes sense. Good NZ heads!

http://www.protopline.com/racingaluminumford.htm I would like to see race and dyno results, they list heaps for Chevs but no Ford results?

thanks EDXR8. i am not after a wild combo. just something that is streetable. thats why i thought of getting a nice set of heads, instead of a cam change. mick webb offered this advice to me, that a good starting point is actually the heads, where the combustion is developed, not the cam as everyone thinks. admittedly the right camsahft compliments a good set of heads.
i am ultimately aiming for about 250+kW at the end of it all - heads, cam upgrade, intake port match, chip to match. i already have the exhaust/K&N. If what you're saying about the GT40p, they may be ample for my needs. |

Water cooled and made so water doesn't flow back into engine...If its set up that way...
Boat turbo's also have a water / coolant incased in turbine, making them look massive...Cannot have too much heat in engine compartment...[Fire issues]
