can get a hold of some gt40p heads been Reconditioned with Hardened Valves and Seats to suit Unleaded or LPG Fuel.
wants about $950 for it. not sure what they are worth. U reckon it would be a decent buy. I will be changing the manifold as well, so how much more power u reckon i will get after these mods to the fairlane??

GT40P's are a great budget head, and will support close to 200rwkw in stock form. $950 seem to be the average price these days, some go as low as $800. When matched with a decent intake manifold and cam you can quite easily see 160-180rwkw, but you will also see big improvements in the low and mid range too.

would u recommend the combo of heads/manifold or manifold/cam?
which do u reckon would get moe power for money?

The stock heads, intake manifold and cam are all restricting engine power, and to get decent results all need to be changed. But if I had to change only 2, it would be heads and manifold, and while peak power wont change all that much, it will give great low and mid range improvements.

Agree - manifold and heads would provide best bang for your buck.

will the gt40p's fit straight onto the fairlane? will any other mods have to be done for it it fit correctly?
and also in relation to throttle bodies, what 65mm ones will bolt straight up, only ef/el ones or can u use au ones aswell. also wondering about the manifolds, will the au upeer and lower manifold fit the fairlane? btw its a NL. cheers

Get an AU 2 or 3 Upper and Lower, with a matched 65mm TB, Then elongate the TPS holes, and measure the voltage output on the TPS. Make sure its between .9and .95v for both, It can be fiddly, but the Computer and the Auto Computer need both for the engine to idle smoothly and change gears as per factory.

The GT40Ps will bolt straight on.
The 65mm throttle bodies only came out on the AUs (the E-series ran a smaller one). The Explorer manifold will bolt straight onto your NL - all you will need to do is relocate the air temp sensor to the intake tube (as with tha AUs) and as TerroristGHIA said, elongate the TPS holes a little to fit your TPS onto the AU 65mm throttle body - all pretty easy to do. If you continue running your EGR you will need to hone your existing spacer a little as the AU 65mm ones are non-EGR. I have a complete AU Explorer manifold and 65mm throttle body set here (including gaskets, bolts etc) if you are interested. |

Those specs suggest stock flow and if it's reconditioned then how many kay's has it done to deserve reconditioning?
