G,day
I've got a series 2 XR8 motor. Ive got some GT40p's ready to bolt on. I would like to put in the TFS1 cam. Has anyone ACTUALLY done this combo with this series of motor/cam, and had NO piston valve clearance probs??. im hearing 1000 different answers so if anyone has actually done this it would help. (motor is dec 97) Just for ur info, im running cobra intake, 78mm PRO-M MAF, 24lb injectors. Bigger TB to come. Just wanna know bout this cam first. I wanna run 1.6rr's, so if the TFS1 is too big ill go for 2030. But would prefer bigger. oh- the cars an auto Cheers

This is what I have with NO piston/valve clearance issues.
GT40P heads from a T series - apparently valve reliefs are bigger so clearance is a bit more of an issue so from what I read if they are from an XR8 you should be fine but MUST be checked. TFS1 cam with 1.72 YT roller rockers, even though the cam is designed for 1.6's, there still weren't issues. Sylox is running the same combo in his XR8 ute with the same cam and 1.6 roller rockers. Make sure with that cam though run double valve springs for the greater lift. It's lumpy on idle but I am running standard ECU and is an auto with standard stall. |

I think the TFS1 runs much less lift than the 2030. Sylox has heaps of room with the 1.6" RRs and is considering moving to 1.7" (still plenty of clearance). You should be fine however as offyaguts says it should always be checked.

the amount of duration is more of a problem with valves hitting pistons than lift a cam guy was telling me the other day

Pretty close between cams - TFS 221/225 and Crane 216/220.

Ok thanks for advice.
The heads are actually from the states, and they have bigger 351 windsor valves fitted (i bought off a bloke from here) Guess ill have to take a gamble and purchase the TFS1. Will check once its in. If its too big that means getting pistons notched more money
