finally finished porting my SVO gt40 heads and lower inlet manifold after some 40 hrs of pain!! No die grinder or carbide bits here fellas, just a couple of stone pieces and a 20 year old hitachi drill .
Anyway I managed to open the lower inlet manifold and exhaust ports in heads right up. Jacket walls are probably waffer thin so coolant changes will be religious from know on. 1. I was wandering how many rwkw I can expect from my hard work? previously car made 156kw on dyno. 2. would it be possible to get the car into the 13's?? Vehicle stock apart from headers and a pearler of a cold air induction. |

Is the car an Auto or manual?
With a bit of tuning , I'd think it would be very close to doing a 13. A couple of TE50's and TS50's at the drags are either bordering a 13 or just sneaking in. Any pics of the port work?

Which SVO heads did you start with? Y's or X's?
It really depends on how good a job you did. Stock cam, diff gears, converter? Low 14's would be the ballpark IMO. |

Pretty sure they are his stock cast GT40P's. I think with the work on the heads, headers and CAI it should pull a low-mid 14. Another member with his manual 220kw AU pulled a 13.9, i'm pretty sure it had headers, cats, catback, CAI and 3.9 diff gears and possibly flash tuned. Although i think his rwkw was around 190-200. Someone correct me if im wrong. The above reading of 156rwkw seems abit low for what i'm assuming is a 220kw AU?

They're actually Y302 SVO heads which are worse then a cast GT40P found in the au3 xr8's (fractionally smaller valves and ports). The inlet valves are beautiful stainless steel with tapered ends to maximise flow.
With just headers and cai it did a 14.4 at 95mph. I'd show heaps of picks if my windows xp wasn't pirated. Bloody nokia!! I know a guy who got his proffesionaly ported and got 175rwkw out of his on the same dyno same day. Its got 150,000km but has one more point to prove before retirement. Oh yeah its a manual t2te50 . |

What is the car that these heads are from/going on?
Is it manual or auto? 14.4@95mph is a nice time for just headers and CAI assuming its an AU 220. i think it might drop down to a low 14 maybe.

Dude they come standard with the car its build number 13. They're a pathetic head the only thing going for it is that its alloy.
au2 te50's were 220KW and yes mine is a MANUAL. Ported it pretty heavy so hope to see 10-20rwkw difference. The lower part of the explorer manifold has alot of ugly bends in it (1 and 5 especialy) where the port narrows quite substantially. The exhaust side of the head you should pay particular attention to the lower wall and short turn radius. Opened up beautifuly but only have 2mm of alloy between port and water jacket. There is a mustang site on here that shows a cross section of the gt40 that I used as a reference. |

Ahh, ok, from previous posts i assumed you had a 220kw XR8 not the T-series.
10-20rwkw seems a bit far fetched to me just from port work, although if the heads are as bad as you say they are standard and you've ported them that far..........i guess the dyno will prove that. Either way even if you gain 5-10rwkw its still gonna be excellent bang for buck being that you done all the work yourself assuming that all it cost was gaskets etc. To me the 156rwkw original reading seems very low, i would have thought it would have had around 165-180rwkw with headers and CAI especially being manual. I understand what you mean about the explorer lower manifold having restrictions in runners 1 & 5, had a good look at mine while it was apart.

The dyno I was on was pretty conservative supposedly. Tickford claimed to have match ported the inlet to the heads YEAH RIGHT! The castings are shocking not even the upper part of the manifold lines up properly.
Like most I was going to match port lower manifold to head ports but decided not to in the fear of dropping vacuum in this region. They are a hell of alot bigger then the ports in manifold I'm treading with caution don't want to lose any of that bottom end kick. Your fingers are delicate instruments that are an asset when carrying out this kind of stuff. |

It's not how much you take out, but where you take it from.
I've seen guys port their own heads and the car has gone backwards because they took it out of the wrong areas, or polished up the intakes. Sounds like you've done well though. |

That figure seems a bit low. My T1 TE50 auto with 200kw motor got 158rwkw with exhaust and CAI. Same day saw a stock as a rock XR8 220 get just under 165rwkw. Hope you get some good gains from your work. I was thinking of replacing my GT40P's with the Y303's but may just leave 'em and get them ported & polished professionally. |

Ran at calder last week and got 14.352 at 97mph!!! or 156 kmh. (3k/h faster)
Weather conditions were warmer then last time and clutch cost me a tenth off the line. Cam is going in next week so hopefully cut a few more tenths of my time. Change to 4th right on the 400m mark so definitely revving cleaner. |

I'm using stock DUNLOP SPORT 9000 tyres and getting a seriously bad 2.178 rection time. The car literally falls off the end of the cam after 5000rpm.
Used to be strained at that rpm before so power drop off wasn't as pronounced (5000+). Done bit of research. The CROW 62757 is the s$%t. I'll let you know in the next couple weeks. This engine is ureal, especialy when you take into account how heavily burdened by weight it is. |
