Hey, just doing the headgaskets on my 5 Litre, only using the E7 heads for the time being, I'll get some GT40P's down the track but I've only got E7's at the moment, so what headgaskets does everyone reccomend? Also is it alright to re use the head bolts on a 5 litre?

I used felpro on all my head upgrades, for both the 5.0 and the 351. As to reusing the head bolts, a new set is less than 100 bux and money well spent if you ask me. They are TTY bolts, so in my opinion, they shopuld be replaced once they have come off.

Same advice as Brett, Felpro and spend a little coin and get the new bolts.

I'd use Cometic MLS gaskets and get some ARP head bolts. You can get an off-the-shelf .030" bore rather than the std 4.1" bore and it ups your compression a smidge too. They also do thinner and thicker versions too.
Btw if you get em from trickflow they're a bit cheaper and the same gasket!? |

You don't say what your car is. EB V8's up to around mid 1992 were fitted with normal (not TTY) head bolts and these are just fine to re-use, time and time again. Do a google search for pictures of TTY head bolts for 5.0. But if you understand what an integral washer is, that's how to tell the difference. Integral washer head bolts = TTY which should be replaced, normal head bolts = OK to re-use.
If you're going to replace them, go with ARP bolts rather than stock replacement TTY's. Otherwise you'll be shelling out for another set when you upgrade. The ARP's can be re-used The factory used a conventional composite head gasket which works just fine. I use fel-pro blue for all my builds, and I've never had a problem. MLS is the best but the price will scare you. These are generally used for difficult sealing jobs rather than normal street performance engines
