picked up the AFR165s today. p/n 1472 , 1.9" intake, pedastal mount, 60cc chamber..

have got my COMP XE270HR cam sitting at home also..

this weekend ill be lifting the motor up, to slide the old cam out and the new cam in.. also ill be able to get the dropped lifters out of the sump. yes im an idiot :)

but, yay! progress! heads and intake will be dropped off tomorrow for port matching, and to fix the problem that started all of this- a seized thermostat housing bolt.

also, the third LHS engine dress bolt is too tight for a spanner(pulley sits in front so only access is sideways), so ill be cutting the top of it off with an angle grinder, unbolting the aircon pump, removing the dress+powersteering pump together and ill take it to ford to remove the pulley, slide a new bolt in, and reinstall the pulley, ready to be bolted to teh new heads..

question for you engine builders tho, what should i stick on all these various bolts ill be reinstalling.. ie head bolts/intakebolts/accessorybolts etc etc etc.. some form of antiseize? grease?

Nice choice of cylinder head :)

Sounds like a nice little cam as well...specs seem very similar to the Crane 2030 in my ute.

What car is it in?
Whats the rest of the combo?
What intake will you run with those heads?

Good luck with it, should be a heap of fun once its all together...

My guess is an EL, judging by his info on the side.
I want to know what is going to be used to control ll this goodness, an edit perhaps.
Would be a good idea now that you can get one.

wot? the factory mappings can be edited? i was just going to hope that the ELGT ecu and 24lb injectors would cope in the short term till i got a tweecer..

(ie once engine all good, me go straight to dyno to confirm correct af ratios.. depending on outcome i decideth the next step - likely will be a slight increase in fuel pressure and some slight tweecer-modified fuel mappings)

rest of the combo is EL2 XR8 with 4.11 diff and t56 box (with .50 ratio 6th.. i.e. 1800 rpm at 100)

with elgt manifold(pretty tubular one) with the lower ported to flow an even 250ish cfm in all 8 ports.. and also the porting will be to match the afrs ports

yeh the cam is similar to the crane, except that the comp is a tiny bit more aggressive.. 0.050 duration is 218/224(crane= is 216/220) and lift will be .550/.550 with 1.72 (crane= .533/.544with1.6)rockers.. a tight 114deg lobe sep angle..

i could have gone for a tad more cam but this is a street car and i want torque, well, everywhere. similar combos(same heads) have pulled over 400nm from 2000-6000rpm and peaked just over 500nm.

Hey clampy,

If you get a spanner on that bolt head after you have removed the other two bolts. You can then swing on the whole bracket in the same direction as the spanner and it should come undone.
Hey brett, Ive got some preliminary tweecer defs for the 4DDG/4DEG EF stuff I'm tesing at the mo...looking good too. Some transfers to the 6DKA which is late EF 5.0 too.
Also Ive found massive cam gear wear problems on two comp cams of late. One in my 351W and one in Shannons 5.0, both engine has about 10 000kms on them. Ive emailed comp cams and am waiting for a response. I was assured these cams were steel gear compatible by comp.

yeh ive ordered a new dizzy gear from comp.. i did ask comp tho and i was told the stock dizzy gear would be fine.

yeh pete the bolt seems stuck more in the bracket than the head.. i can only turn the bracket a short amount(was tappin it with a hammer) and it takes the bolt head with it as it turns..

Ok well I'd get one of the new polymer gears from them.

Ever had any probs with the MSD pro billet dizzy.
I have had enough of them. Mine s**t itself, and has been rebuilt using the factory parts from my stock dizzy. Cuts out due to heat, then died last sunday morning and had to be replaced with a stocker so i could get home. Pity about the twEECer stuff, i have already gone to EMS 8860 courtesy of Crescent.

Never used one. Only used Accel Billetech with no probs. What part of yours is dying? The Hall effect pickup?
Seeing as you've got 8860 why don't you go distributorless?...that solves the dizzy problem

Thats a pretty tidy combo....should be stacks of fun on the street.

WIll you be upgrading from the factory 55mm MAF and 19lb injectors?

Sounds really good man. How long do you think before it is all fitted?

Are you aiming for any particular ET, MPH, RWKW figures?

hopin only a few weeks...

aims? well atm im expectin it to be a bit lean up high.. haha.. but a ballpark of up to 300rwhp would be nice.

mid 13 second pass kinda deal, coz it should have a pretty decent torque delivery.
