Depends what you want to achieve?
The TFS heads are a way better option than 40p's. |

Have a look here....
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/630.shtml These are flow figures which is not the whole story but straight away you can see the advantages of the TFS over the 40p. 40p's also create problems because of their spark plug angle...most of the better headers out there don't clear them or, if they do it is near on impossible to get all the spark plugs in or out. They also don't have the potential of most all the other aftermarket heads out there. So the question remains...what do you want to achieve performance wise? Pete. |

What you will achieve depends on your budget
Let people know what you can spend and you'll get some good advice on how much bang for how much buck

TFS have superior valve train, thicker deck and don't lift like the Ford heads..
Way less chance of detonation as the head / chamber design is much better... Larger ports but hardly lose any low rpm torque.. Bigger inlet valve and depending on cam with the 2.02 inlet valve the pistons may not need to be notched... Generally they make better power without high duration cams.. With enough lift they make decent power... But again !!! It depends on power level, induction etc...

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, however my understanding is that with larger cc heads, more air can flow through them. however, that doesn't mean you should look for biggest heads in existence and bolt them on; If they're too big, you'll lose intake charge velocity and lose low end power as a result. (just like how you lose power from WOT at 1200rpm, the intake velocity is lost)
As a standalone bolt on mod, I've heard good things about AFR 165s. But seeing as you're looking at a kit that replaces a lot more than that, at least you'll know that the ones that come with the kit should work, no hassles. GT40p heads only look good compared to the stock heads, because the stock ones are just that pathetic. |
