Hey guys, after I pulley up at home yesterday after a 2 min drive I smelt some burning coolant which made me think ?oh s**t?, there and then my coolant light comes on so I popped the bonnet and there it was, coolant pissing out of the heater tap onto the extractors smoking away!
Anyway, what I?d like to know is if anyone knows how much they cost to replace from ford? Looked over the whole thing, checked all pipes and its just that tap which is cracked, nothing else has failed thank god, also is there any reason I shouldn?t try and fit the new one myself? Thanks in advance guys n girls.

Ok, ended up doing it myself, bit of a pain in the a*** but meh..
cost 80bucks for part and coolant consentrate. Flushed it all out after i drained it and lets hope it all holds up hehe! Hope this post serves a purpose in the future LOL!

HAHA, autobarn/repco/supercheap have them, got it from repco..
There is a ford service/parts center about 3 min from my house, went there this morn and they didnt have them and by the time they got it in it would be too late as they'd be closed, plus they were gonna charge 23 for courier, total price of like 118!!! Ford are biggest rips ive come accross, in all seriousness.

i hate to tell you this after you have done it already but if you get a vs commonwhore v6 heater tap they are the exact same and cost about 20 less then the ford one, i dont know why but that is dead set true, i did mine not long ago.

Nah, doesnt bother me, got mine for like 50 or so from repco, so im not upset..
Id just rather get it done than worry about saving a few bucks.

$25 for genuine ford heater tap for my nl, new design its plastic rather than metal so it wont s**t itself too early!
not that bad of a job, if you do it when the radiator is full get ready for a nice green coolant shower! YUK!

not that bad of a job, if you do it when the radiator is full get ready for a nice green coolant shower! YUK! The one on my NF went last year and i got it replaced with the plastic version too.. This one went on the fbt and it was already plastic so just put same thing back on, best thing is they are SOOO much easier to get to on the v8, cept one of the pipes which is on the wrong side!
I didnt get coverered with coolant as i drained it 1st then fixed then flushed..

I have just experienced the same prob In the XR8, got a genuine ford part for $64, why the f**k are they made of plastic?

It might be a Corrosion issue. The plastic ones wouldn't wouldn't corrode.

Yer, i guess thats why they are plastic, not really a bad thing, just a pain in the butt to replace due to fiddly location.
That being said i stick by saying its easier on the windsor than the ol i6!

what about the i6 taps are they the same as they are cheap as
and the new ones are a ball valve too! ohh to stop coolant gets some hose clamps fools
