Im leaving it for tonight anyway. Im making too much noise and its getting late. maybe there must be enough water in there. But I have lost so much from the surging and have added water, so I have no idea where I am at with how much is in there now. Might be better off draining it tomorrow and starting off fresh so I can take note of how much is getting in.
Im not convinced that when the water is at the top of the radiator that is full anymore. Bloody comos, This is not the first time I have had problems with it while trying to do what should be simple maintenance tasks. |

Did you use a proper V series coolant?
These motors run hotter than most motors.....

They also have 3 tablet things I think your supposed to put in... Another anti-corrosion thing I imagine? Josh, Just picture it like your falcon system man... Fill the header tank up higher and bleed from out the top of the thermo housing and thats pretty much the best you can do...Once all air has gone up (make sure you open the heater switch too) and you let it out of the thermo housing and seal it back off again no more air can get in... (unless your screw leaks)... I wouldn't be too pedantic about it as its really not that complicated... Unless somebody knows something I don't... As long as a contstant stream of water comes out the thermostat housing your right... Even if you take it for a burn, come home, fit the coke bottle again and try and bleed again... If you straight get constant water then no worries... Cheers, Tim

also another thing i didnt see mentioned is expansion and contraction of water and parts inside. that why we have the overflow bottle on most cars. and also why after you left it sit, as it cooled down it sucked in more coolant.

I got a vp 3.8 and a similar thing happens with mine.
Don't stress. Its nearly normal for that to happen. You have to make sure its completely empty before filling it back up. When filling it up let it run with the heater going the whole time and be patient. Once the thermostat opens you will see the level drop in the radiator, top it up and wait for the big bubbles to stop comming from the filler neck. When there is just a few little bubbles chuck the cap on and top up the header tank. Now its time to bleed it from the thermostat. I usually bleed it a bit then take it round the block and bleed it again when I get home and top up the header tank. This method should work. Just keep an eye on it for a couple days. |

Have the bleed valve open while filling from empty (engine not running) and close when no more air is present.
Close the valve and start the car. open the valve every couple of mins to bleed any air unlit normal runing temp it reached. Now is time to put the cap on. Take the car for a drive, allow to fully cool and top up if needed. Job done.
