 Once again I am having trouble with my EL 5.0. I think they saw me coming. I think I have a blown head gasket, the gear box is playing up again ( Brett7777 was spot on with the original problem) and the steam from out under the bonnet looks like my wifes veggies on the stove when they are ready :? . What I would like to know is does anyone know of a reputable workshop in Perth to get all this sorted and anyone dumb enough to buy the piece of s**t when it is fixed?
While on the subject any decent car yards for a replacement Ford of any description

I would get a mechanics opinion, the head gaskets don't normally cause a problem on the 8's. Could be that you have lost a heater hose or heater core.

Agreed, Windsors with head gasket problems are few and far between. I also haven't heard of the BTR97 having any real issues either, short of the previous owner having given your car a real flogging...

2202 you will need to be more specific mate. When you talk about the steaming pot of vegies, where is the steam coming from, when does it normally do it and does it do it all the time no matter what. Also with your gearbox, what exactly is it doing?

I know how peeved you are mate when you are at the end of your tether, but if you can fix the overheating issue then thats less money to pay someone else. I had drama after drama with the wifes VR V8 stato but over time, I had it running sweet.

Try your hoses/cooling system for leaks... pressure testing etc.

As said before, windsor's with head gasket issues are quite rare.

If you can hold tight and depending on cash situation/Mrs. go for a stroker kit, will fix anything engine related and you will be left with a weapon which you wont need/want to get rid of anymore :)

water loss through exhauset would indicate a broken water jacket, theres always a little on start up due to condensation in the exhaust but if it continues after a bit of driving my guess is its internal. the heater hoses once blew in my EF in engine bay pass side nearest the dash, that looked messy. theres a big set of connections there. but water under high preassure is a hard thing to spot espescilally when its hot and evaporates quickly. Good luck EF/EL 5.0 still my fav bus.

How much do you want for it without fixing the problems? Is the body good?

Definately need more info.

Where is the steam coming from?? Not just something like a f--ked water pump is it?? That'll dump nice puddles of steaming fluid all over the place...

Ierace Automotives in south or Perth somewhere are Ford only people.
Also BPT in Wangara are Ford only people.
Try either of those.

I had a few cooling system leaks in mine when I got it. These were the parts that were leaking:
Heater Tap
Water Pump
Timing cover
Overflow bottle

Put a cooler thermostat in it which stopped the purging of coolant in the overflow and made it run at about 1/3.

Was getting steam from the heater tap leaking onto the extractors, but this was quite visible. It could be a pinhole on something alloy in the engine (eg thermostat housing, timing cover, water pump) spraying onto the exhaust which will give you the wrong impression. Mine p****d me right off, but once I got it all fixed it was like magic, no more topping up the cooling system! Have a good look over it to see where its coming from.
