Hi, my problem is more of an annoyance than a problem.
I have a T3 Te50 manual it has had some head work done and a more radical cam fitted by Trick and Mansweto all applied by it's previous owner.
The engine runs very well when warm with an expected lumpy idle and also when cold idles pretty much the same.

The annoying part is that on initial cold startup for the first 3 to 5 seconds the revs go to over 2000 rpm, being a cold motor I find this annoying, I hate to have a cold motor revving like this.

So am I being paranoid? or is this something that should be addressed?, if so how?

Sounds like they have just cranked the throttle body open further to get it to idle higher. Probe the TPS wires and check the voltage. You may find it is too high ie over 1 volt.

Thanks I will check it out.
I just had a thought! the car also has a custom map applied via a CAPA unit, I assumed the mapping does not affect the base idle, is that correct or could this contribute to the initial cold start high idle?

Ahh I see. The new calibration should have taken the idle into account but they may have opened the throttle blade too far and not done any work on the idle cal.
Take the inlet tube off and check how far the blade is open aswell as checking the idle TPS volts.
The problem is that if they have done this then it's likely it'll be wrong everywhere else when you fix the idle by closing up the blade. Then they'll need to calibrate the idle properly.

if you open up the butterfly a bit and reset TPS to 0.98v would this constitute a calibrated idle or would you need to make other adjustments?
