Have a look at this. Would this make any difference to a standard EB 5.0?

EB-EL 165KW V8's were all equpped with HO lower and Upper, so you already have one of these.
The next step up for 165 users is the manifold which was used on the 175-220KW variety, the 'Explorer' manifold. Edit: just read that 'Number one runner flows greater than stock' Hmm, what about the other 7 runners? There are 2 things you dont want on your Windsor. HO manifold and E7TE heads

That's a really bad, very misleading eBay item.
Shame on the seller.

Thanks Waggin.
I was pretty sure that was the case, but thought I would check as that sounded pretty cheap. I am really getting the urge to go for a bit more power. Would there be any point on going for explorer manifolds on E7 heads? or would you have to go for GT40's to have any effect?

as far as i know upgrading the intake alone will give you an increase anyway, but yeh if it were me i'd do heads/cam at the same time..
(funnily enough thats just what im doing, but im goin for edelbrock heads, bbk manifold etc..)

Yeh, theres definantly power to be had. TerrorisGhia is pulling almost 150RWKW with an RPMII on E7TE heads, compared to my 128RWKW with the HO on E7TE's.
I dont think you'd see much difference between the Explorer and the RPMII manifolds on a stock engine, but you can definantly see the advantage over the HO Manifold. I'm selling a Cobra manifold which is 'similar' to th Explorer manifold, if you're interested PM me. Also got some GT40P heads to sell

The Cobra manifold was used on the ED XR8 Sprint. It has similar flow figures to the Explorer (possibly flows a little more IIRC but don't have figures on me to confirm) It's what I use and I noticed a difference when bolting it to stock heads. The number 5 runner is usually the more restrictive due to a kink around the dizzy. I don’t know what the go with that ebay auction is
Out of interest I'm running E7TEs still and pulled 208.6RWHP at the last dyno and that was at an AFR or up to 14.2! |

Yes it is EGR equipped. The sprint T/B was 65mm. I'm also running one of them.

Ok, I wonder if the manifold opening is 65mm or 70mm on the Sprints. The Cobra's were 69mm from factory.

Alternatively you can port your stock heads and intake, still good gains to be had.

The cobra intake (as used on the sprints) has a 70mm TB opening (probably slightly larger as my 70mm TB matches up pretty nicely) and yeah has the advantage of having EGR built in so no need to buy an EGR spacer. They flow considerably more than the explorer, and in fact they are the highest flowing general Ford 5L manifold available (Stock HO 144cfm, Explorer 188cfm, GT-40 208cfm and Cobra 212cfm). They also have excellent low down torque characteristics. Intakes like the RPMII are way too big for the 5L, you will just end up loosing too much down low IMO. And
And yes, intake upgrades will give you some improvement as the E7 heads flow around 156cfm compared with the HO intakes 144. Obviously you won't see the full potential until you change the heads though. |

RPMll is ok on a camed up motor with top induction though...Like AFR/ TFS heads, Crane cam etc..More suited to manual....
The Sprint inlet is an experimental inlet Ford made before the Cobra manifold...They used them up on the Sprint...Back in early 90's they sold them in U.S as pre Cobra manifolds..The mk 1 version... Ha I have a H.O manifold .Filling space....

Just so I know (i've never researched this before) when you talk about the manifold ie cobra, RPM II, HO etc, does it refer to lower, upper or both parts of the manifold?

Yes generally we mean upper and lower as most have different port designs in both. The Explorer, GT40 and Cobra all have the same lower though.
