How can you tell the difference between the 200kw version and the Yella Terra 220kw version??

Do they all have the silver roller rockers?

Where are they actually ported??

Is there any markings to tell the 2 apart??

cheers

I'm just rebuilding 2 220kW engines atm. The exhausts are ported on the upper side of the runner. It's machined straight accross the port and into the port about 8-10mm whereas a normal GT40P is "as cast". You can visibly see the machining, but it helps if you know what a normal GT40P exhaust port looks like. The 220's have 1.94" intake valves fitted and are throated out to suit. Exhaust valves are the same diameter as standard GT40P's. The 220's also have yella terra roller rockers, 4 shaft mounted pairs per head, upgraded springs with a flat wound damper, and the cam is a modified explorer with 220 stamped into the end (not the front where the gears are mounted). They all have silver/grey rocker covers with the Tickford alloy "hand built by" badge.

I think the 220's may have an extra "Bar" cast into the front don't they?? Normal GT40's have the 3 bars, but i think the 220 have the 4 bars, is this correct?

no 220s were improved by yella terra but they start out as the same casting as a 175/185/200...

The 200kw had 1.6 roller rockers and the 220kw had 1.7roller rockers i was told.
Can you tell the difference between the 1.6 and 1.7 roller rockers? Any markings to tell the two apart?

^ measure from the shaft to i) the Push rod cup centre ii) the valve roller centre.
Divide the shorter unfer the longer. eg 37mm/21.5mm= 1.72 :1 Ratio

Can some one confirm as ive just been told the 1.6 are Crane Rockers?

If that is the case then visually the difference is the name on the rockers for the 200kw and 220kw to distinquish.

Anyone got a photo of a 200kw head and a 220kw Yella Terra ported head to notice the difference?
Especially the ported side of the Yella Terra heads.

not sure bout the other post about the exhaust port, but i got a set of yella terra's in fornt of me. They are painted black, have CNC port work done on inlet to be matched to the intake. They have 1.72 y/t's. Main thing is the cnc porting on inlet, can definatly tell as its one clean sweep with the mill, as opposed to a die grinder.
But as far as i know, they didnt touch any exhaust ports.

Dunno about the original RR's but on the current Yella Terra range of RR's you will see a number stamped. E.g. the ST2046 rr's are 1.6 ratio and have a number "6" stamped there to indicate this.

In my experience, identifying an engine by checking bolt-ons isn't a sure-fire method. It may be correct 4 times out of 5, but it's definately not 100%. One of the 220's I've just pulled apart looked like a 200 from the throttle body, but somebody had swapped it before selling the motor. Inside it was all 220. Another engine I recently bought as an XR8 200 but inside it was a base AU 5.0.

Maybe the date codes on the heads are the answer. The Tickford heads have a datecode stamped into them on a flat machined part of the head, above the exhaust port above the "GTP" casting. Passengers side above #8, drivers side above #1. The 220's I have here atm have 10 H 01 and 10 G 01 stamped into them. I'm assuming this means 10 Sept 01 and 10 Aug 01 respectively. Unfortunately I don't know the transition dates from 200 to 220kW heads, but someone here probably does.
