well if your gearing is different, then you would have a differet top speed.
Higher gearing for example will give you better acceleration but lower your top speed.

Nope.
Your cars would do 200km/h even in 3rd gear, given the chance. They would do well over 250km/h in 4th if they had the power. Unfortunately the speed limiter will kick in at certain speeds and stop the engine from making more power, hence restricting speed. |

Craig from ACE tunning had his car down the track. he did Constant 15s
a quote from his post on FF.AU POST NUMBER #56 http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread ... 180&page=3 Quote: I dynoed my 3 valve standard at 167 RWKW and have now fitted a full Di Filippo Exhaust System which now turned 180 RWKW so i picked up 13 RWKW.
Standard it ran 15.1, 15.1, 15.3 & 17.54(Wheel spin to half track cause launched at 3500 rpm on everyday dunlops) Exhaust mods ran 14.73, 14.67 with a little bit of wheel spin. Next week we will fit CAI, Helix and maybe underdrives and see what she does. I reckon it should get down to at least high 13's in everyday street trim. This guy does not s**t !!! those previous figures on XR6t Forums were times out of Wheels Mag. |

Ive seen a BA 3V manual ute without an LSD can do a 14.4 dead stock.
Makes the 3V pretty damn good if you ask me. Lets see an XR6 do that! Pete. |

They don't do manuals anymore unfortunately (BA MKII or BF thing, I dunno), OR the ZF auto in the BFs which would have been my other choice. That's a fairly massive oversight on fords part in my opinion. Surely theres a fairly big market for tradies who want a V8 Manual ute, but don't want the decreased load capacity/ride height of an XR8 or the price?

I discovered that when I went to buy a new 3V ute! They reckon it's because the clutch won't allow the max towing capacity. Pete. |

{USERNAME} wrote: {USERNAME} wrote: Thanks for the advice guys, i think i had the wrong idea about a ba ghia v8. I used to have an EL 6 and it was pretty slow, so i'll probably look towards a mid 90's bmw 540i or something. when you say mid 90's, if you mean an E34 (up to 1996) those 540i's wouldn't come close to the BA Ghia for comfort, and i'd also be surprised if the performance is any better than the Ford and the E34's are looking very dated these days especially inside. the E39 is a MUCH better car, but you'll be paying over $30K-$35K for anything half decent, whereas BA ghia v8's are going for low $20K's with probably 1/4 the k's of the bmw's and the Ford is still more comfortable and more powerful and with easy options to make the performance way better than the bmw. only thing in the bmw's favour is that people who don't know any better will think you're a millionaire I have to disagree with you there. I have driven both now, and although the E34 540i looks old both inside and out, it is far more luxurious + hits 100kph in 6.8 seconds not too bad for a 93 model car. But yeah the engines arenet very strong + a lot of things will probably break on it cos of its age. Not sure which would be a better option for me, but i can say 1 thing for sure, if they were both brand new the BMW would crap all over the ghia |

I have a ba ghia for my daily driver
http://www.cveperformance.com/projects.html as you can see here. I wanted the luxuries, and knew I could make the power. runs 13.5 on the 20" wheels in full street trim. don't discount the 3V

All BA's are limited to 200km/h, except for the XR's which are 230km/h. I think the FPV's have another limiter again but I'm not sure what it is offhand.

What are you trying to say?
My point was that the speed limit wasn't due to gearing... |
