I'm chaanging my cam synchroniser I need to know in detail how to get the engine to top dead center in detail please

Use the timing pointer and check #1 is on the compression stroke by lifting the right valve cover and checking the #1 rockers aren't opening/closing either valve.

Or if you don't want to pull the rocker covers off just take out #1 spark plug and hold your thumb over it whilst getting someone to turn the engine over. As it approaches tdc on the compression stroke you will feel some pressure build up. Once you feel it then turn it over till the timing marks match up on the harmonic balancer and bobs your uncle.
