remove the radiator shroud
theve the belt on for the moment (helps to keeps the water pump from moving to much get a 32mm open ended and put in one the clutch fan nut, make sure it is pointing up REMEMBER that this particular nut is reverse thread so when standing in front of the car facing the windsceen the spanner must travel clockwise too loosen this nut. get a rubber mallet and give it a good whack. this should of cracked the nut and now it will come off peice of piss

Alternatively you can make a tool to secure the water pump hub so that you don't have to hit anything with a mallet. ( a good way to round off bolts/nuts and damage anything in the area....IMO anyway).

Leaving the belt on just stops it from turning when hit with a hammer. The hammer isnt needed because its tight, but it half shocks and half undoes the fan. Because of the short impact time, it should come off. The gregorys manual has a template of the required tool, and i scanned in a copy of the page for here earlier. That was before the crash, so maybe someone has a copy somewhere? But yeah, leaving the belt on will make it easier to do.

You might have some luck with a screw driver, or if you remove one of the bolts and put a piece of metal over it with a hole, and doing the bolt up. Apart from that, try making up the tool in the gregorys manual?

Even though it is spinning it sould slowly shock it off, I have done it on a few cars now and they normally come off after a dozen or so solid hits, but you really want hard quick hits to shock the bolt. Just be careful of flying spanners |

Oh, v8's are standard thread, 6's are opposite? If this is right, then youll need to turn it anticlockwise standing from the front of the car as you would any normal bolt as yours is a five litre.

yes the sixes are left hand thread, but the v8's are definetly right hand thread.

i remember reading somewhere that when you remove the engine driven fan and replace it with a electric unit it gives you more power. is this correct?
