Hi,
Just doing a little info dig, maybe to upgrade at a later date. How can you identify a 175kw motor or 185kw in an EL XR8? Ex-NSW police car. These power chips that can be fitted to the base of the EEC are they expensive reletive to the extra power gain? Is it necessary to fit uprated fuel injectors and MAF ? Apart from big $ items like Superchargers, Turbo's, NOS etc what other bolt ons can be fitted to the engine to increase power without messing with the engine internals? Ths in advance. Regards, Gary. |

Hey gary.
Take a look at my gallery, the HO intake manifold is fitted to the 165kw V8 engines. If it doesnt look like that (if it's squarer), it'll be the explorer manifold which was fitted to the 185kw. EDIT: sorry, in terms of the XR8, if it has the HO manifold on it, itll be a 170kw vers i think.

On the v8s the usual exhaust and extractors for a start , chuck on some underdrive pulleys. Better intake manifolds help and bigger maf and injectors with a chip to control it all will be a good start without cracking the engine really open.

exhaust and extractors dont get mild steel ones get stainless they will last a s**t load longer, if you do get mild steel extractors get them coated in ceramic coat inside and out so you will get many years use, as left in mild steel will rust from the inside out fast with the v8s

Yep,
Thx for that. I've certainly got the squarer HO type intake manifold, not the GT40 unfortunately. Stainless Steel Extractors are there already, I think are part of the Tickford gear. What are underdrive pulleys? and what do they do? Is there a range of these performance chips, I mean 5kw, 10kw etc in terms of power? Can anyone suggest a supplier, preferably in Adelaide? I'm sure the injectors have never been out (165k on them) so what choices would I have to upgrade without overkill. The MAF?also what fits as an upgrade. I understand that with this engine you could get up to 220kw with the correct parts, but I'd be happy for mine to reach 200? Regards, Gary. Go see KPM (Kings Park Motorsport) 257 goodwood road they are awesome to deal with and will be able to help you out. They are also right next door to the best exhaust place in town Exhaust Technology. KPM have their own dyno and are a herrod and CAPA dealer as well as many other things. I have recently got them to do a s**t of suspension work to my EL XR8 as well as injector cleans in there ultrasonic bath. Next up will be what you are looking into.

Are the runners on the GT40 manifold hand made/welded, or is the entire manifold cast? Just general interest

GT40 is welded tube, very light, but no performance benefit over explorer. An explorer can be ported too. GT40 will not hold its heat like explorer though |

The H.O and Explorer look similar from above.. You have to look at the top / lower flange where the ports on Explorer are divided...While the H.O is inline...
