Hi Guys,
I am looking at replacing the Intake Manifold gasket on my Fairmont, it has a slow oil leak from the front that I have been ignoring for a long while. I just want to know what the best gaskets are that I should be using and where to get them? Also, any other advise would be great, like other bits I will need, etc. I haven't done this before so will be a learning experience, setting aside a weekend for it |

either Summitracing.com or Jegs.com if you looking international, they are pretty quick with post, otherwise rocket can get them local, but expect to pay a bit more.

Get a can of Wurth Rost Off and spray all the manifold bolts the night before and again as you start removing them.
They are very well known for rusting into the heads at the water passage , snapping off and being most annoying.

I went to see how much it would cost for a mechanic to do this and It's about $250.
I am still thinking I'll do it myself but the mechanic told me that It's common that when you remove the distributor you can drop the rod or something into the sump. Is this a common issue and how can I be sure not to let it happen? Any help would be great. Cheers. |

Take plenty of photo's as you go, pulling bits apart one by one, that way if you get stuck putting it back together, you can have a look at the photo's for a guide. It's what I do if I've not done a job before.
ACL gasket set would be ok for the job, as would felpro or durapro. Cheers ToranaGuy

That's crap, that would only happen if some f**k left the clip off the oil pump drive when the engine was built. |

Does anyone know any good guides or videos to look at?
I have a workshop manual to use but I like seeing images to get a good idea of what I am doing. |

It's not a hard job man, I just swapped a carby type manifold for the factory efi setup, hardest part was finding the bolt sequence for the lower manifold, and then connecting up the vacuum pipes. Otherwise it was easy....
