this has been covered dozens of times..... all it is, is a resistor that lowers the temp readings that the IAT sensor sends to the ECU, fooling the engine into thinking the air is colder, which the ECU sees as a signal to dump more fuel in...... just makes the engine run as rich as s**t and chew through fuel

Dont forget of course that in the medium to long term these dont work because the ECU figures out that something isnt right and re-tunes the car to work around the fudged readings. For that reason, this works really well on some holden ECUs but doesnt work well on any adaptive learning ECU like the ford EEC

Cheers Nigel ECUs don't work around cold start enrichment. Basically all you're doing it telling the ECU it's in cold start mode the whole time. |

its not so much cold start enrichment, it fools the computer into believing that the air temperature is colder than it actually is

Actually looking at the EEC programing shows that the resistor mod won't actually change fueling, that is actually controled by engine coolant temp not air intake temp. It also shows how the resistor mod won't really do anything for timing, the factory timing vs ACT/IAT only remove 2-8 degrees of timing once the air temp becomes REALLY hot (Naturally aspirated engines should never reach these temps).
But basically this is what the EEC does on the V8's (6cyl should be pretty similar though): 0-65 degrees C - there is no effect. 75 degrees C - retard timing by 1 degree at WOT 85 degrees C - 2 degrees of timing retard + 2 degrees at WOT 115 degrees C - 2 degrees of timign retard + 6 degrees at WOT |
