hay all..

when i leave the car for a while say 1hr hope back in to start it... it will crank ova but will take a while to fire.. when it fires black smoke comes out of the exhaust... i rev it and black smoke... after it heats up its easier to start but still small amounts of black smoke...


i have read that it could be Water temp sensor, MAF, Air filter , MAP and 02 sensor... but that was on the v6 not the v8.. is it the same princable.. ???

it also kinda smells like FUEL from the exhaust.....

and runs kinda rough....

what can i do to fix the problem ??? i am booking it in for a service next week but i work in parts i can get the parts required... what should i get ????

it definitely sounds like it running rich! so yeah check all the usual suspects, i had a similiar problem with a 250EFI in my ZL in that instance it was the fuel regulator, but i'm not an expert on these EFI things.

Could also be leaking injectors. My bros old AU 5.0 used to do it. It run well but if you turned it off and let it sit it would cough , f@rt and die on start up , get it to fire again it would run rough until you gave it a rev and all would be sweet.
The injectors started leaking past the nozzle once they were cleaned. Apparantly it isnt all that uncommon to happen.

I had the same on my old EB XR6 albeit it would take longer than an hour. It was leaking injectors. Had the injectors overhauled and all was sweet.
