5.0l 185kw modified to close 2 220 spec intake ported and matched 1.72 roller rockers paceys and big bore ,cold air etc. I read that au111 had improved fuel reg and hav had probs dyin out at revs wondered if this would help cheers guys

You need to fit an adjustable fuel pressure reg (or a fixed higher pressure reg), but simply increasing fuel pressures can often be a waste of time seeing the EEC tends to cancel out most changes to the fuel system.
If your engine is leaning out up high then you really need to get some larger injectors along with the matching MAF, but if your injectors are blue then you already have 24lbers and shouldn't be running out anyway (even the orange/brown 19lers should still be just within limits). |

it mite hav been sloppin away from pickup hav since changed filter as was due but i saw that au111 had improved fuel reg and wondered if they are limiting as hav improved intake porting quite a bit by machining off plenum porting out and bolting aly face on like edelbrock performer but dont know wether fuel was at the limit on fairmont 185kw .hav also seen larger intake pipe sold by herrod agent over here any good wat do u reckon cheers

Fuel isn't at its limit on the 185kw engines, from what I have heard some of the earlier ones had 19lb injectors (yellow/brown) which is capable of around 220-230kw, while the blue 24lb injectors fitted to the rest is capable of 250kw+. With your mods you should not really be running out of fuel.
The larger intake pipe is probably worth a few kw, but don't expect anything huge. Herrod stuff is normally really expensive, you may find your local exhaust shop can do the same thing for a lot less. |

yer thought about usin bit of kiwi ingenuity (broke) on intake pipe jus not sure were 2 bit of hose 2 allow motor flex an mount that sensor ;MAF is 72mm an hose id is larger then reduce down 2 65mm at TB be interesting 2 no if any body hasadded 1 while on a dyno? if no increase goin 2 70mm TB u would wonder

have you checked your fuel pressure as your pump may be rs or too small.

what shud the pressure be an do u plug a guage into that fitting comin out of fuel rail witha plastic cap on it like a tyre valve. I think prob fixed after changing filter but be handy to know what press its running cheers

Yep you can use the schrader valve (same as a car tyre) to check fuel pressure. It should be around 36-38psi witht he vacuum line disconnected.

If anything you'd want to reduce the fuel pressure on an AU because they generally run too rich at WOT(around 10:1). Jump on the dyno with a wide-band up it's date and make some fuel pressure reductions in 1lb increments. Of course this may have an adverse effect on closed loop fueling...what you really want is lower fuel pressure at WOT but not anywhere else. You may be able to this by applying a small vacuum at the reg only at WOT.
You may need to clear KAM to allow the adaptive strategy to help you gain the middle ground. Pete. |

Oh sorry
KAM is "Keep Alive Memory". You clear it by disconnecting the battery for a period of time. KAM is where the adaptive table stores it's data. When the engine has run a certain way for some time the values in each of the cells contain data that may not now suit the wholesale changes in fueling you have made by adjusting the fuel pressure. So by clearing KAM you zero out the data and it has to start from scratch. Pete. |

GOOD ON YA theres something else ive learnt cheers Pete . HEY wat do you suggest for checkin fuel press can u just get a cheap guage from repco or so il hav 2 save the dy no stuff bit scarce ova here (bucks 2)
