Alright, after a ong wait, because of funds, this will start to happen this weekend. i shall start pulling the old girl down. My question is, will i need anything, as in bearings, gaskets, etc... Pretty muc i will be replacing heads, cam, inlet manifold. I have: - Cobra Inlet manifold - Gt40p heads - 2030 cam - manifold gaskets - larger t/b and MAF

Full top end gaskets, so Heads, intake, water pump gasket( be careful as the sump needs to come down to change the cam) timing cover gasket, tb gasket, exhaust gasket.
That should cover most of the items needed Brett

Also just wanting to know whether the genie headers i have will fit in the body. i know they will fit the heads, its justa a matter off fitting it all together. cheers BEN

Its pretty easy, start at the top and work your way down. The Max Ellories book isnt too bad on strip and assemble. Cams i get done by others, as i am not too sure on how to dial them in.
Basically remove battery power, the remove electrical connections for TB etc, then remove upper mnanifold ( i remove the upper and TB as obne peice), the lower, and sepearate fuel lines/water lines etc. Then remove exhaust manifolds. Then remove front end dress and radiator. You may be able to get the cam in without removing the aircon condensor/radiator, but not sure. Then remove heads. The motor look reallys small when they are that bare. Then if you are doing the cam, remove water pump and timing cover. Remove timing chain and replace. remove cam. Install new cam and degree it. set up new timing chain. Assembly from there is the reversal of removal Hope that helps Brett

It's easy to do matey. Follow the bouncing ball sort of stuff. The only 'issue' that could come up is pushrod length. Your lifters will take up minor differences though so don't stress too much. Don't forget your stem seals too. A bit of oil on each when you push them on helps a lot. If you get stuck, I can help on Sunday arvo if things get tight. I've got all the tools too.
PS take care of your air con condensor lines. Jack up your car so that you can drop it enough without the need for a re-gas. |

Just a reminder for myself to get these things Head gaskets Rocker gaskets intake gaskets water pump gasket Timing chain timing cover gasket tb gasket exhaust gaskets Stem seals Just bought some 1.72 rockers too, so i will have to do them before i put the heads on. If you think of anythin else, let me know. As i will have to go and see my contact at ford and order the gaskets.

It would be wise to buy some cheap easy outs just in case your water pump bolts are seized. I had 2 seized bolts that wasted about a half a day buggering about. In the end I borrowed some easy outs and they eventually came out.
Also buy some permatex black goo to use on the water pump and timing cover. I also used permatex on my cork, yes cork rocker cover gaskets and I have yet to find an oil leak. I'm not sure but I believe that those rockers would suit the 2031 Crane. You may have to check your lift if you choose to use those rockers with your 2030 Crane. Last thing you want is a heap of bent valves.... |

Do the rockers after the heads are on, that way you can adjust them to fit( if they are adjustable)

i normally get some tape and stick a bit to the threads so you can label the lower intake bolts as theres several different lengths .....just saves time d**k round gettin the right ones where theyre spose to be
and when you refit the lower manifold and youve got the intake gaskets stuck on the heads i normally get a couple of bits of thread stock or old bolts and cut the heads off fit one in each side front and rear and use them as locating dowels so you can lower the manifold down in line without moving your gaskets ( especially if youve port matched) hope this helps |

As for pushrod length, you will not know until the rockers are on, and the all bolted up. Best to get an adjustable pushrod to get the exact length.

I would dummy fit your rockers to the heads and then try on your chrome rocker covers and see if there are any issues there before you start.
