I saw one like that happen once, an EF series 1 wagon, full of "going on holiday for 2 weeks" stuff, it landed on its side from full height, so they gave them an EF series 2 with 20,000 less k's on it, and swapped over the accessories, and repacked the car.
The dealer got the car fixed, and was a sh!t job, the drivers door didn't line up with the A pillar at all, and you could see daylight between them.

a bloke i used to work with dropped his mum's N13 pulsar from full height both ends were touching the ground, and the middle was on the hump of the hoist. piss funny. even better was he still lived with his mum.

Was the mechanic at gladstone? VIC?
They had to get a crane to lift the car out the roof.
As you can see by the pic, the rope wrapped around the diff and the wheels...

Won't be the last time that will happen either, two post hoist have a place but a four post with a pan or drops etc is far safer and you can still do most jobs.

Touch wood it never happened to me but I still hated the things, especially cars that didn't have sills you could lift off.

I have used that type of hoist before. Its a Tecalamite (spelling???).
They have positive stops for the side arms, you have to push in a button to move the arms.
Anyway, looks like somebody didn't figure the balance point very well, eh???
I have had some sh!tboxes where the sill has colapsed, coz it was rusted away & hidden with bog. Haven't had one fall off a hoist yet, touch wood.

Worse thing about balancing a car on a two post is you find out how front or rear heavy some cars/4WDs are, and then go to find out you can't setup a two post to be balance properly, empty commercial vans are a good one for this (Vans suck in general to work on!)

And then some d***head will tell you two posts are safer than four, but never can backup their claim.

Two post or four post doesn't matter the're both better than the old centre ram oil and water hoists I started with in the early 60's   :D
