I am, yet again, seeking the advice of the wiser-than-myself fordmodders.
This time my bloody ef xr8 is leaking coolant. Well, it has been for a while actually. But it's worsening I feel. Anyway, heres the strory.. A while back I noticed the low coolant light coming on regularly, and so logically I was checking the level frequently. I then noticed that when I filled it up, it would leak the most, but never completely empty the filler bottle. Why is this? This evening I noticed a small pool of coolant under my car and began investigating where the leak was originating from. (Before someone mentions it, it's not coming from the overflow) Infact it appears to be coming from the water pump; right towards the water pump pulley, rather than the gasket itself. Is it as simple as replacing the water pump? Would this fix my problem? If not then what are your ideas of it being? thanks guys |

there should be a little bleeder hole on ths water pump itelf.
when water is comming out of this its the sign that the water pump is finished and time to replace.

mmm i think its near the main shaft where the pully connects and goes thru to the water pump propellor.
if you use a torch and a mirror and have a looksie around you should see it along with some water trails leading up to it.

got the mirror and the torch and bang... found it. But I was wrong. It IS coming from the water pump gasket, below infact. So I just need to replace the gasket? Or the pump and the gasket? Which would you suggest Benny?

how longs the pump been on ther?
if its been too long or your unsure i think they arent too much. i would probly do the pump aswell considering your taking the old one off anyway to do the gasket.

if you are doing the water pump yourself, work the bolts out slowly, when i changed my one (at 10:30 at night so i could get to work the next day) i snapped one of the bolts, and i had to slowly work the other bolt out so it wouldnt snap (losen a bit, tighten a bit, use a full can of wd40/innox )

well. Took it to the mechanic first thing this morning just to confirm I had identified the culprit. I had. But just now, I received the phone call no one wants.. bolts corroded and frozen in the timing case and block I imagine. looking at a few dollars now. Water pump, gaskets, bolts, pulleys, timing case (coz he's gonna have to bludgeon the perfecting good one that's on there).
So yeah, looks like this one's gonna hurt. Unless I can find trusty balaclava, n just swing by the 7/11 to hassle my Paki mate on my way there.... WINDSORS, IF THEY DIDN'T SOUND SO DAMN GOOD WE'D ALL BE DRIVING 6'S! |

Timing covers can be had for less than $100 from the US. You'll want a 94-95 Mustang one.
