hi
i was wondering what you guys think on doing a lpg conversion on a eb 50l v8. as it has 270.000 kms on the clock. it runs good it doesnt burn oil ,rattle or run hot. im just woried that converting now will shorten the life of the engine. as you know the price of premium unleaded is up around $1.30 per ltr wich is getting a bit expensive to run.. my options are. convert it to lpg, swap it for a six or just sell it???? what do you think???? |

I'll be converting my Fairlane 5.0L to LPG early next year and it currently has 175,000kms. Thus far, I haven't read any problems with converting a high km car to LPG.
Even if you sold your V8 for an I6, you still be getting similar milage or more. A mate had an I6 that was well taken care of (quicker than mine) that was less fuel efficient..

thanks guys but has anyone put lpg on an engine with over 250,000kms as i still might do it . because this morning ulp is is up to $1.39 per litre and bp ultimate is $1.45 per litre.. and lpg is only .42 per litre. as i said before im worried about the engine? will it be able to handle the extra heat in the heads. at over 250.000 kms its not exactly a new engine. ............ |

But if your right foot starts to get itchy just switch it over to petrol. You shouldn't lose any power when running on petrol either. you will lose a bit performance when its running on gas but that why you still have petrol for! My NC V8 runs duel fuel and to be honest with you it runs beaut on both.

My NC V8 runs duel fuel and to be honest with you it runs beaut on both. Running pure gas will f**k your injectors as well. Also in QLD (unsure of other states) I think an aftermarket conversion needs dual fuel. Quote: around 130000 and cost around $1800 bout 4 years ago
Mine is at 196km and 2200 for conversion...done tomorrow |

thanks for your replys
i went and saw joe at crescent motors yesterday and he was very helpfull so i think i will be getting the conversion done soon.. its going to cost $2300 . but due to the large amount of people doing lpg conversions there is a shortage in tanks. so i have to wait about a month |

What does Joe's system include?

the conversion includes every thing required for the job for duel fuel
he will use a air rod 3 stage converter .but the only problem is that the converter is quite large and will not fit without mods. so it looks like we will be removing the air box to make room for the converter. i will just have to use a pod filter. i dont know about the tank i can use a api tank that sits behind the rear seat or i can use a donut tank that sits where the spare is . the donut tank holds less gas though . so i dont know what tank to use yet.???? |
