Went down to repco today to get a quote on a Lukey 2.5 inch cat-back system, only for them to tell me that Walker infact dont make them for Windsors anymore! Apparently there's no demand, which I find hard to believe seeing as though they appear to have a bloody fantastic reputation amongst just about every make of cars' groupies. Confused, I went to the local exhaust shop and the fella was as puzzled as me!
I went ahead and ordered a redback 2.5 inch with centre muffler and no rear resinator, bearing in mind I have Lukey extractors and a cold air intake system, am I likely to be satisfied with my choice? What type of sound can I expect? Thanks again boys and girls |

well on my 6 i have lukey extractors and a no name 2.5 cat back and i like the note. let it carbon up a bit and see what happens. worst case you might need to change the muffer to get a better note.

Like a v8 most likely.
But really, its like saying "how good are my crops going to be this year?" Once you get it, you'll be able to decide how it sounds and what needs to be changed. What sound are you looking for? There are a LOT of different factors that affect sound. eg: Muffler brand Muffler size Muffler material Pipe bends (angle, amount of bends, Mandrel or press bends) Pipe material (whether mild, stainless etc) Cats (size, material, cpsi) Extractor type (4-1, 4-2-1 etc) Extractor length And even exhaust tip will affect how the final tone is produced. In my opinion, low cpsi cats, stainless pipework, single large body stainless muffler and a slightly larger tip than pipe diameter will give that rumbly, attacking note that we all love.

hahaha yeah you're right, the options are virtually endless so I believe. I had my heart set on the Lukey from hearing the feedback they'd all been getting, so I was and still am a little apprehensive about the redback as some say they're ok, others say they're crap. Individual preference I guess. Time will tell. I'll give it some time to carbon up before I pass judgement. Thanks fellas

Here's a Manta off-the-shelf one. I've heard afew Manta systems and they always sound good I think.

yeah i've heard good things about the Manta systems... But it's done, just got the 2.5 inch redback with no rear resonator put on and Im pretty happy with it. Driving it back from the shop I noticed no drone at all, which Im pleased about. Question though, Ive heard that exhausts tend to become louder over time, is this the case? Is it likely to become louder? I hope it does.

Yep they call it "burn in". My Xforce system on my Pursuit has certainly gotten louder and better sounding I think.

Mate how is your exhaust system going
looks similar to the one on ebay i have been looking at i think i will get it in a few weeks from the cat back then later on buy the headers and hi flow cats , is it a bugger to relocate the cats to suit the headers {DESCRIPTION} |

Hey Deano, yeah I'm loving the note it's making and it's not outrageously loud, however I'm expecting the sound to 'fill out' a bit with a bit more driving. As far as relocating the cats for the headers, my exhaust fella did have a bit of trouble making everything work as far as chopping and welding here and there. Although I think the most trouble he had of everything was bolting the extractors themselves (Lukeys) to the block.
Back to the exhaust, I was a little skeptical at first about getting the Redback... not anymore. And hell, for the $380 supplied and fitted, cant go wrong. Do recommend it mate. |

dont get your hopes up with it filling out the sound when burning in. it might get a little bit louder but it also could induce drone at crusing speeds. Nothing crazy though.
I had paceys, highflow cats and a redback 2.5 inch no reso and it droned slightly. But i had the opputunity to hear someone else drive my car and it sounded absolutley terrible. It sounded like a truck/slapper from outside when cruising, so got a hotdog and it fix the prob but its a bit queit for me :s I can deal with drone so long as it sounds good and not like a hole in the exhaust or a wet f@rt |

Yeah well Im happy with it and I've heard alot of V8's that dont sound nearly as good IMO. But I guess in the end it's subjective, and maybe the pacemakers, as great as they are for flow (and they definetly are) were the reason why it sounded the way it did. Infact that's why I went with Lukeys; I've heard from many people more knowledgable than myself that they produce a less choppy note, albeit sacrificing flow and efficiency to the pacies. Sound aside though, I have noticed a big difference in the overall willingness of the car; far better pull.
