Hi all, my EF Ghia V8 Runs on Gas 99.9999% of the time- only using petrol when In a rare Instance I run out of Gas (rarely)
She runs like a pig on petrol anyway ( I think bad filter, injectors, MAF- maybe all of em!!) My question is can I take out the MAF OUT OF THE EQUATION, keeping in mind if I unplug the MAF it still runs so in an emergency situation I could get home. I want to replace it with a Nice piece of stainless mandrel bent pipe...I think it will help the intake. Then I will upsize mixer ring. Also will putting in a larger diameter throttle body help on gas???? I am think all of the above would be good mods?? Help me out with opinions/tried and tested methods.... Cheers!

You can but the EEC will incorrectly calculate load therefore your spark mapping will be very limited and probably see reduced performance/fuel economy.

if your still letting the eec control spark then yes it still uses the maf as it needs to know load in order to calculate timing..
you could always unplug it take it for a drive and see what happens..? -mitch

XR9, Its really weird I unplugged MAF and took her for a run on gas- it runs fine, does not miss a beat, is it at all possible that the installation guy by passed this??? Is there anyway to tell??

Did you drive it hard with the maf unplugged, I have seen a couple of E series where the owners didnt think there was anything wrong, to find the MAF unplugged, they of course didnt drive them hard and just country roads, once you drove it hard etc it was very noticable with EFI.
As for LPG it might work for it, Pete what does it do for timing exactly, LPG as everyone knows is better for more initial and less total advance than petrol, if it doesn't change initial timing it would be hard to tell it was not plugged in on LPG, depending on the advance rate.

The mixer ring on the windsor lpg conversions is tiny. I doubt you will find a larger mixer ring than the one you already have. Therefore, the MAF that you are using is not a restriction, nor is the throttle body you are using.

Read what I said again raff. Notice I didn't say it wouldn't run at all?
So you will still get spark control but it's accuracy for a given load will be wrong because the MAIN input for load calculation is the MAF. It's like you have gone from a fully mapped ignition to an old distributor with only a simple mechanical advance curve.....it works but it's not as good. You may not notice it initially(some people never notice) but you may notice it over time with reduced fuel economy and you may notice certain areas of load/speed/temp/rpm that it doesn't perform as good. I'll be happy to take your advice on tyre shreading Raff

you could take the MAF out, car will run fine.
it will not be as efficient as if you did have the MAF in, likely reduced fuel economy and power. the same applies even if you're not on LPG.
