As long as you use the same size injectors as the AU had.

Yes you can. Just use the electronics off your original 55mm MAF on the 70mm housing. Your stock 19's will work but, to be safe you should spin it up on a dyno with a wide band up it's date to check you're not leaning out anywhere.

yeah i figured it will run a lil leaner, has anyone done this? much gains to be had? i just find it hard to believe a 5l can breath freely thru that tiny 55mm maf

I tried it on my ute for a while before i pulled the engine out. Seemed okay but i wasnt 100% sure as i never had it on the dyno to check AFR's and didnt have my wideband kit back then. Best thing to do is exactly whay XR9UTE has said, swap electronics and bolt it on and see how she is on the dyno.
As far as gains go, it will be minimal if your still running HO manifold and stock t/b etc. Maybe try a 65mm T/B, 70mm AU MAF, K&N filter and a modified airbox, should unlock some hidden power, presuming exhaust is already covered.

yep exhaust is on the way, so the manifold is the choke point then?
is there any point in changing cams before the manifold? the thing is the au maf is a freebie so i thought it would b worth a shot

Mate, if the MAF is a freebie then snap it up.
I'd be ditching that HO manifold for an explorer straight away, get a 65mm T/B and maybe some 1.7 rockers and just use them on the std cam, is known to make some nice results.
Try a set of underdrive pullies aswell.
