Just about to put the 5.0L w on engine dyno after rebuild.
Caps showed evidence of "walking". Only stock block with 2 bolt mains. I am thinking of a girdle. Does anyone know of one that fits stock sump without doing major mods? It was interesting to do a torque plate hone on the block as you could see how the block distorted even with 65 ftlb torque. Adding Compcam XE276HR / 42lb inj / Motec M800 to the combo in the signature. Richie.

I think 42's will be a bit large, 24's are ok, i ran 24's for a long time and only upgraded to 30's to get some safety net for the NOS. As for the girdle, i know they exist, but have no idea of brands, try Hiperformance World in North Parramatta

im using this one on my motor
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku it did require minor "adjustments" to get it to clear the sump.. just a light dressing on the grinder and a pair of extra dents in the sump the clear the longer bolts. -mitch

Yep, will check out BPT oz made girdle.
With the injectors - my reasoning is the combo should be around 370 - 400 fwhp. 24lb will support 345hp @ 90% duty cycle. 30lb will support 430hp @ 90% duty cycle. 39lb will support 560hp @ 90% duty cycle - but are EV6 style. 42lb will support 605hp @ 90% duty cycle. However, I will be happier working with say 75% duty cycle. So the 42's will give me a good safety margin. Where I come unstuck is if Brake Specific Fuel Consumption is less than 0.5 lb/hp-hr at WOT. Any thoughts? Richie.

"pavtek" do a mains girdle for windsors, not sure about sump mod's to fit it but... check there website.

The only problem when using such large injectors is low load/low pulse width control is difficult(even with motec). So for the majority of street driving you're probably going to use more fuel than you otherwise would and you may get cylinder washdown occurring. Just make sure you do a lot of low load cal work and get closed loop spot on. Are these low impedance 42's?
It's unlikely you'll go under 0.5BSFC but even if you did your 42's are still overkill. It's a shame Orbital don't sell their ECU's to the aftermarket because their injector control method is the ducks guts. |

Hey...
My two cents.. coz I've been there... If you want to do main girdle... you ideally need to machine the caps flat... ie take the moon out of the top of them.. else the girdle won't clear your oil pump... If you have already bolted the caps down.. you'll need to buy one that comes with the washers and mill them down as much as possible... I'd suggest using main studs and as such you will need to get an ARP 12 point nut to clear the oil pump as well... I wasted a lot of time getting my girdle right... but sorted now! |

Dont waste your money with the girdle mate, on a stock roller block all it is going to do is hold the 2 broken halves together. What do you call evidence of the caps walking? I would suggest there is bigger problems like detonation, or over revving to see cap distortion with your mods. |

Pete,
Impedance is 11- 18 ohms. Bosch #280 150 558 Ford #-9593-F302. Yes, somewhat overkill I agree - however will end in the 600hp 331 project starting soon. I am told M800 has the resolution to control the flow at low RPM's. Evidence of walking is the face of the cap having a small discloured wear mark near the bolt holes. Detonation not a problem - no marks or fine cracks on head gasket fire ring. I believe Probe make a mains girdle that does not require machining the caps. Has a spacer & recessed bolt holes. Just need to find where & how to get one here quickly. Richie.

Ok they are high impedance which means the motec will have a harder time controlling them. You really should use low Z injectors with switch mode injector drivers.
BTW just dug out some old mags with a couple of cars running EECIV and producing 860 and 1017 rear wheel hp respectively. One has a novi 2000 blown 380ci engine and the other a XX-trim Vortech blown 434w. They are using Pro-M 83 and 107mm MAF's. They both use 83lb injectors but the 434 uses an FMU as well because the injectors aren't really big enough. The 380 has eaten four T56's so far. |

There are a variety of girdles available that don't require any cap machining. I have the Pavetek which is a nice unit and its a straight bolt up and along with the recommended ARP studs it was $522. http://www.pavtek.com.au/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=33 . |

The BPT one requires the stock caps to be machined. Not much left of the cap to be useful. It is a good quality unit - laser cut here in WA.
Found one thru Dave at A1 - 5R Racing part# 5R302WFG - it has permanent spacers to raise the girdle above the curved area of the stock cap and the hole on reverse side has a washer recess so as not to stick up so much & uses ARP studs. Rear of sump just needs a couple dents in it. Seems to be same as the Probe one that was running around. Richie.
