hey folks.

i have a low km EL XR8 with a full exhaust

EL GT extractors, high flow cats and a twin 2.25 mandral system with H pipe and one cheap straight through muffler each side. a bit bigger than a shoe box.

the car has a great note!

real tough deep sound but at idle its very quiet and although its a great note even with your boot into it its not that loud.

any suggestions for a bit more noise (without going over the top?)

replace the mufflers with hot dogs? thoughts?

dont replace mufflers with hotdogs, you will get defected. get rid of all mufflers accept the main one on both sides. and make sure you have straight through mufflers, not the triflow ones.

sorry fellas i didnt make it very clear, wrote it too fast.

the car only has one muffler each side as is, straight through but the car is not loud, probably due the head design on these cars, i think they are 'quiet' engines

would hotdogs make it sounds not as deep

hot dogs only will make it fukking loud man, i would say the current "straight through" mufflers you have either aren't straight through or are really really good at their job
i'd just change the mufflers.

a little off point but TUF250 does your exhaust have any clearance issues over the diff? doesnt look like there is much room for a twin on EF/EL.

Larger size pipes after mufflers will give you noise..
But SHEESH !! It should be quite notey already !!
Sound insulation in boot keeps alot of exhaust out of cabin...
Invest in some "decent" heads...
Fitting turn down tail pipes to the ground can make it louder at low rpm especially if a little under the car...

yeah it is 2.25 all the way due the twin pipe clearance over the diff (on that note no worries with clearance if it is fitted correctly, never had it knock or bottom out and its on superlows

would the hotdogs be as deep a sound because it sounds really nice but not that loud. they are straigh through but offset if that makes a difference, it sounds great but not quite loud enough. i used to have a fairlane 5.0 efi dumped at the diff and was louder and sounded good but droney.

would GT40P heads make a big diff to this?

cheers

As steady said, get some straight through mufflers as you probably have chambered mufflers which baffle the noise more. I have straight through mufflers(shoebox sized) on my wagon and it has plenty of volume.

hotdogs wont be to loud if you have more than one, and they do make it deep.
i dunno about the law there tho...2.25 bit small for an 8 isn't it?

The biggest killer in the sound department on a 5 litre is the cats.
I think twin hotdogs instead of mufflers would sound tuff, but probably drone a bit(i was going to do it to my eb 5.0 8-) )
Just do it man, whats the worst that could happen? :D
Can you run the car without the mufflers hooked up and just running through the cats, coz thats pretty much what it will sound like.
